THOMAS COSGROVE, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
SUIT-CASE ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TrIoMAs Cossnovn, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Suit-Case Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a means for providing additional receptacles for a suit case of usual configuration, the receptacles being especially adapted for carrying small articles which are more conveniently separated from the articles carried in the body of the case. The receptacles are so attached that they may be detached from the case if their use is not desired, the case being left, to all intents and purposes, in its usual form. The receptacles are also so arranged that their covers may be easily removed and access had therei to for the removal of the articles therefrom without disturbing the body of the suit case. I accomplish the above by means of the de vice described herein and illustrated. in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1,-is a perspective view of a suit ease provided with my improved attachments. Fig. 2,-is a horizontal cross-section taken on line 2 of Fig. 1 and line 22 of Fig. 3. Fig. 3,is a vertical longitudinal section taken on line 3 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings 5 designates a suit case of usual configuration and. construction whose cover 6 is attached and operated in the usual. manner. On each end. of the case is mounted a pair of straps 7, preferably riveted. lieceptacles S, illustrated as cylindrical but capable of being of any other configuration, are provided with tongues or hooks 9 on their inner faces adapted to be slid in behind straps 7 and thus rigidly hold the recep tacles on the case. These tongues are riveted or otherwise.secured to the walls of the receptacles.
Each of the receptacles is provided with a cover 10 which fits snugly over its top and is held from displacement by a strap 11 secured. by a buckle 12, or by any other convenient securing means, on the side of the receptacle. This strap passes through. a guide strap 13 on cover 10 and its other end is secured, as by riveting at 14, to the top of the suit case.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 16, 1908.
Patented May 25, 1909.
Serial No. 427,297.
Then it is desired to open either of the receptacles strap 1]. is unbuckled and the cover may be then readily removed.
The receptacles are preferably made of the same material as the suit case on which they are placed so as to correspond in color, texture and general appearance to the case. It will be seen that they do not interfere with the carrying of the case through the medium of handle 15 and further that they do not interfere with the opening and closing of the case in the usual manner. The receptacles are chiefly useful for. carrying small articles, as collars, toilet articles and the like, which are sometimes very inconvenient to find and remove from the large number of articles generally contained in the body of the case.
By the above explained construction it will be noted that I have provided a convenient detachable receptacle which in no way interferes with the using of the suit case itself and which may be attached or detached as they are needed or not.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. .A suit case attachment, comprising a receptacle provided with a cover, detachable securing means mounted on the case and said. receptacle, and a cover securing means secured to said case, said means passing over said cover and being detachably secured to said receptacle.
2. A suit case attachment, comprising a receptacle, straps on the case, tongues on said receptacle adapted to be received be hind said straps, and means on the case to prevent the movement of the receptacle in a direction longitudinal of said. tongues.
3. A suit case attachment, comprising a receptacle provided with a cover, straps on the case, tongues on said receptacle adapted to be received behind said straps, and a strap secured to the case and passing over said cover to be secured to said receptacle.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 6th day of April, 1908.
