(o1.132 79) I This invention relates to a container for toilet set articles, and has as its primary object the provision of a container for a toilet set that may be conveniently carried in the pocket and which is so formed as to readily accommodate manicure shears, nail file, comb and mirror, in a fashion to render the articles readily accessible.

Another object is to provide a container of the above character embodying hingedly connected leaf members adapted to be folded in overlying relation to each other in which the leaf members are formed of rigid or stiff sheet material so formed as to provide an effective holder for toilet articles and in a fashion to permit ready removal and replacement thereof endwise of the container. 1

A further object is to provide a construction in one of the leaf members affording a rigid support for a mirror and yet provide pocket space rearward of the mirror for the reception of a booklet of sheet materials, such as boo-ks of postage stamps and the like,

With the foregoing objects in view, together with such other objects and advantages as may subsequently appear, the invention is carried into effect as illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the container showing it in an open position with portions broken away;

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the container as seen in its closed position;

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the container as seen from the side thereof opposite that shown in Fig. 2 and showing the book receiving receptacle in its open position;

Fig. 4 is a detail in vertical section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2 as seen in the direction indicated by the arrows;

Fig. 5 is a detail in horizontal section taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawing more specifically A and B indicate a pair of leaf members that are hingedly connected together by a hinged joint C so as to have swinging movement relative to each other and whereby the leaf members A and B may be disposed in overlapping relationto each other as shown in Figs. 2 to 5 inclusive or may be disposed in outwardly diverging relation to each other as shown in Fig. 1.

In carrying out the invention the leaf member A is formed with a back wall Ii, side flanges 1 and 8, and an end flange 9 each of which flanges is formed with an inturned margin 11.. The flanges I and 8 terminate at the end of the leaf opposite the end flange 9 to aiiord an end opening I t in the leaf. A web II extends between themargins of the lower portions of the side flanges I and 8 and connects with the end flange 9 to form a pocket D as particularly shown in Figs. 4 and 5 and which pocket may be divided by a partition I2 as shown in Fig. 5 to form the pocket D into a pair of compartments, one of which is adapted to receive a comb E and the other of which is adapted to receive a manicure shears F and a nail file G as shown in Fig. 1; the web II being spaced from the back Wall 6 and. having its exposed 'margin spaced from the open end I9 of the leaf A whereby the articles contained in the pockets may be re I5 moved and replaced in the directionof the length of the leaf.

V The inner faces of the back wall and web II are coated with a covering I3 formed of'a soft fabric to afford a cushion and a friction grip for 20' the articles contained in the pockets.

The leaf Bis formed of a length exceeding that of theleaf A and embodies a. back wall I l, side flanges I5 and I6, and end flanges I1 and IS; the

flanges I5. I6 and I! being formed with inturned 25 margins 12 disposed to overlie and seat on the inturned margins a of the flanges 'I", 8 and 9 of the leaf A.

The leaf B is formed of a length exceeding that of the leaf A and the end flange I8 thereof 3 is formed of a width exceeding the width of the flanges I 8 and I! and such that its outer margin will extend substantially flush with the outer face of the back wall 6 of the leaf A when the latter is closed relative to leaf B and extended in 35'- parallel relation thereto. The outer margin of the flange I8 terminates in an inturned wall I9 arranged to overlie the opening Ill to form the sole closure therefor when the leaves A and B are in their closed overlying position and to act as 40 a stop to prevent the outer ends of articles carried in the pocket D from advancing beyond the end of the leaf A when the container is closed.

Carried on the inturned margin 17 of the flanges I5, I6 and I1 and. on the inner end of the 45 wall I9 is a frame 20 in which is supported a plate 2| constituting a mirror and which plate is spaced from the back wall I4 of the leaf B which latter is recessed rearwardly of the plate 2| to provide a pocket G for the reception of a book 5 H of postage stamps or the like; the recess G is fitted with a cover 22 connected by a hinge 23 to the lower margin of the pocket. The side margins of the cover 22 are formed with inturned flanges 24 providing opposed grooves 25 adapted 55 pair of i terial and of such length,

to receive the margin of the back portion 26 of the book H as particularly shown in Fig. 3.

The leaf members A and B are fitted with the cooperating parts of a snap catch I, as shown in Fig, 5, whereby the leaf members A and B may be detachably connected together in their closed or folded position.

The operation of the invention is apparent from the foregoing; it being obvious that articles such as a comb E, shears F, and file G, may be readily inserted in and removed from the pocket in the direction of the length of the leaf member A, when the container is in its open position, and that when the latter is open the mirror 2| may be utilized in a fashion common in toilet article containers embodying mirrors on the lid thereof. When the person carrying the device desires to use only the mirror II, the flanged top portion 18 of the device forms a secure fingerhold not only for withdrawing the device from the pocket but as a handle means therefor while looking into said mirror.

By forming the leaf A with the open end portion In the container may be formed of a length slightly more than sufficient to accommodate the articles contained in the pocket D and the latter may be formed with rigid walls from which the articles may be readily withdrawn in the direction of the length of the leaf A and without distorting the walls of the pocket. Owing to the fact that the flange I8 forms the sole closure element for the opening l0 through which access is had to the pocket when the leaves A and B are swung apart, it is unnecessary to provide the device with any special element to close the said pocket D (see Fig. 4). The simplified structure residing in this idea of means is an important. feature of the invention.

By constructing the container as set forth it may be made in most part of rigid sheet mabreadth and thickness as to admit of its being readily carried in a pocket like a flat note book and the like. In other words the container may be made exceedingly compact and yet accommodate the several toilet articles essential for use in the ordinary care of the hair and nails.

While I have shown and described a specific embodiment of my invention I do not limit myself to the exact details of construction shown but may employ such changes and modifications as occasion may require and coming within the meaning and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a container for toilet articles, a pair, of hingedly connected leaves each of which embodies a rigid back wall having side flanges and an end flange; the side flanges and end flange of one of the leaf members formed to overlie the side flanges and end flange of the other leaf when said leaves are arranged in their closed overlying relation; one of said leaf members being formed of a greater length than the other and having an end flange arranged to overlie an end of. the other leaf member to close a space extending between the ends of the side flanges ,thereof, and a pocket on said last named leaf member opening toward said space, the swinging apart of said leaf members on their hinge connection afiording manual access to the open end of said pocket.

2. In a toilet article container, a pair of hingedly connected leaf members one of which embodies a rigid back wall formed with side flanges and an end flange at one end thereof and being open at the end thereof opposite said last named flange; the other of said leaf members embodying a rigid back Wall having side flanges and an end flange formed to overlie the flanges on the other leaf member when said leaf members are arranged in closed overlapping relation to each other, and an end flange on the last named leaf member projecting over the open end of, the other leaf member when the leaves are in their closed position, and a pocket interiorly of the open ended leaf member opening to the open. end thereof, the swinging apartof said leaf members on their hinge connection affording manual access to the open end of said pocket.

3. In a toilet article container, a pair of hingedly connected leaf members one of which embodies a rigid back wall formed with side flanges and an end flange at one end thereof and being open at the end. thereof opposite said last named flange; the other'of said leaf members embodying a rigid back wall having side flanges and an end flange formed to overlie the flanges on the other leaf member when said leaf members are arranged. in closed overlapping relation to each other, and an end flange on the last named leaf. member projecting over the open end "of the other leaf member when the leaves are in theirrclosed position, and a pocket interiorly of the open ended leaf member opening to the open end thereof, said pocket being formed of a rigid wall extending between the side flanges of the first named leaf member and having a margin arranged in spaced relation to the open end of the latter,.whereby articles of a less length than the container may be supported in said pocket with their upper end portions projecting above said pocket margin in a position for convenient manual withdrawal from said pocket.

4. In a toilet article container, a pair of hingedly connected leaf membersone of which embodies a rigid back wall formed with side flanges and an end flange at one end thereof and being open at the end thereof. opposite said last named flange; the other of said leaf members embodying a rigid back wall having side flanges and an end flange formed to overlie the flanges on the other leaf member when said leaf members are arranged in closed overlapping relation to each other, there being a top end flange on the last named leaf member projecting over the open end of the other leaf member when the leaves are in their closed position, a pocket interiorly of the open ended leaf member opening to the open end thereof, the leaf member having said top end flange being also provided with an externally accessible pocket in its back portion.
