7 Claims. (Cl. 206-16) The present invention relates to razor set cases and nited States tent O 2,925,905! Patented Feb. 23, 1960 so as to support the cover stably in a rearwardly tilted position. The rearward portions of the hinged edges of the base and the cover are beveled outwardly to provide clearance when the case is opened to the position shown in Fig. 2. The case is made of a transparent material such as molded polystyrene for example, and is painted on the inside to give the case a very attractive containers for housing safety razors and blades and it relates more particularly to a new and improved versatile container that is-well adapted for elfective counter display and for use in the home and for travel.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a very convenient and versatile container for a razor set adapted for counter display purposes and also for containing the razor set around the home and having a removable section that forms a compact and convenient travel case for the razor set. N i It is another object of the invention to provide a novel container for "a safety razor set having a removable section and including a member that serves as a backdrop for the razor when displayed and also serves as a wraparound for the removable section when the latter is used as a travel case. 1

Another objectof the invention is to provide a novel safety razor container that is particularly well suited for counter display purposes and for use around the home and is separable into two portions, one of which is usable as a container for jewelry and the like and the other as a travel case for the razor set.

A further object of the invention is to provide a novel container in combination with a removable section which in and of itself may serve as a travel case.

These and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description when considered with the accompanying drawings illustrating one embodiment of the invention wherein like reference characters indicate like parts and wherein:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a container constituting one illustrative embodiment of the invention, shown in closed position;

Fig. 3 is a view similar to that of Fig. 2 with the backdrop partly removed from the cover section of the container;

The container disclosed herein may of course be adapted to contain various articles but for the sake of illustration is shown for use in connection with a safety razor as illustrated in co-pending application Serial No. 668,052, filed on June 26, 1957 by Bailey et al. and assigned to same assignee as the present invention.

It will be seen from the perspective view of the container in Fig. 1 that it is of substantially rectangular shape and consists of a base 10 and a cover 12 hinged together at the rear by a pair of hinges 14 constructed appearance. The base 10 is provided with an internal recess defined by side walls of uniform height and thickness and a flat bottom. The cover comprises side walls of the same thickness as the side walls of the base and a flat top. The inside surfaces of the side walls of the base and cover are lined with

15 and 16. A puif 17 is attached to the underside of the top of the cover 12 to provide an attractive appearance when the case is open. One part 13 of a snap fastener is secured substantially in the center of the underside of the cover as shown in Fig. 3.

Loosely received within the recess in the base 10 of the container is a substantially rectangular tray or section 18 having

A transverse cut or recess 24 is formed in the top surface 23 of the tray near the end wall 19 to receive the head of a razor and a channel-shaped recess 25 extends longitudinally from the recess 24 for receiving the handle of the razor as indicated in dashed lines in Fig. 3. A rectangular recess 26 having straight side walls and inwardly sloped end walls is provided for receiving a razor blade dispenser. It is to be understood, however, that these recesses may be altered as required to accommodate the particular articles that it is desired to support on the tray.

28 and 29 each of a width substantially equal to the width of the tray and of a length somewhat longer than half the length thereof. The wrapper 27 also includes a side extension or flap 30 of sufiicient length to extend over the top surface 23 and the

21 and 22 of the tray and partway over the bottom portion as shown in Fig. 6 and of a width somewhat less than the length of the tray. One part 32 of a snap fastener is secured to the bottom of the tray to engage the other part 33 of the snap fastener attached to the side flap 30 near the end thereof and on the inside thereof, i.e. the side facing the tray. The Wrapper 27 may conveniently be made of plastic vinylite material. The tray is preferably of a molded plastic material and covered with flocking to present a pleasing appearance and a soft surface for receiving the razor and blades.

It will be appreciated that the container in accordance with the present invention presents a very pleasing appearance and, as shown in Fig. 2, olfers a very effective display for the articles supported on the tray. The side flap 30 of the removable tray is bent upon itself outwardly and the snap fastener portion 33 is engaged to the snap fastener portion 13 attached to the underside of the cover 12. The side flap 30 conceals completely the snap fastener and provides a very eifective and attractive backdrop for the razor and blades displayed in the case and will, when the case is closed, resiliently bear against the articles supported in the tray so as to prevent displacement or chafing thereof when the container is moved. The

28 and 29 are folded in overlapping relation beneath the bottom of the removable tray 18 as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 4 when the tray is nesting within the base as shown in Fig. 2. The overlapping end flaps provide a resilient support for the tray and the articles received within the recesses of the tray. The container illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 thus provides a very attractive and convenient container for the razor and blade dispenser and is readily stored in a bathroom cabinet or on a mans dresser. However, whenever it is desired to have a compact case for example for travel, the removable section that. includes the tray 18 and the wrapper 27 may be used as a travel kit.- In order to remove the tray, the side flap 3t) is first disenaged from the snap fastener on the cover. The tray is then partly lifted from the base of the container by the side flap 30 and then gripped at the two end portions thereof and lifted entirely out from the recess in the base. The tray will then appear as shown in Fig. 4. With the razor and razor blade dispenser disposed in the recesses provided therefor, the end flap 29 is brought over the dispenser and the bottom portion of the razor and the end flap 28 is then brought over the head of the razor and on top of the flap 29. The side flap 30 is then brought over the two overlapping end flaps around to the underside of the tray and snapped in place by means of the snap fastener 32 on the bottom surface of the tray to provide a handy travel kit as shown in Fig. 5. 10, 12 as a convenient and attractive receptacle for jewelry or other personal articles.

To assemble the container again the flaps are opened and the end flaps 2.8 and 29 are folded in overlapping relation underneath the bottom of the tray. The tray is placed in this condition within the recess in the base of thecase as indicated in Fig. 7. The side flap 30 is reversely folded outwardly and secured in place by engaging the snap fastener 33 thereon with the snap fastener 13 within thecover 12. 1

It will thus be appreciated that the container in accordance with the present invention provides a versatile display receptacle for articles such as a razor and a blade dispenser with the case and tray in combination, and also provides a compact travel kit for the razor and the blade dispenser and a convenient jewelry receptacle when the case and tray are used separately. it will further be appreciated that various changes and modifications may be made in the case and the removable section disclosed herein without departing from the true scope of the invention.

Having thus disclosed our invention and described in detail an illustrative embodiment thereof, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A container for a safety razor set comprising a case including a base member having a recess, a. cover member hinged to the base member for movements between a closed position covering the recess and an open position stably resting rearwardly tilted and exposing said recess, and snap fastening means within said cover in combination with a removable section disposed within said recess comprising a generally rectangular platform extending upwardly to substantially the level of the top surface of said base member, said platform having recesses therein for receiving a razor and a razor blade container, end flaps secured to the underside of said platform and folded in overlapping relation beneath said platform when the latter is nested within the recess in said base member, a side flap secured to said platform and having an inner display surface facing said platform and a cover surface on the opp osite'sid'e, and snap fastening means attached to said cover flap on said inner surface thereof cooperating with said first named fastening means to secure said side flap to said cover in a reversely outwardly bent condition with said inner surface of the bent-over portion facing the inside of said cover to conceal said fastening means, said side flap serving as a backdrop for a razor and a blade container displayed on said platform within the recesses therein, said platform being removable from the recess'in said base after detaching said fastening means, said end flaps being adapted to extend over the respective ends of said platform and overlap on the top surface thereof to cover the razor and blade container resting thereon, and a snap fastening means on the underside of said platform, said side flap being. of such length as to extend over the adjacent side of -said platform, the overlapped end-covers, the other side of said platform and partly over the bottom ;-.thereof to permit said snap fastening means on said side flap to engage said snap fastening means on the underside of said tray to form a travel kit.

2. A container for a safety razor set comprising a case including a substantially rectangular base member having side and end walls and a bottom defining a recess and a cover member, snap fastening means attached to the underside of said cover, said cover being hinged to said base member for movements between a' closed position covering the recess and an open position wherein it stably rests in a tilted rearward position and exposing said recess, in combination with a substantially rectangular platform disposed within said recess and extending upwardly to about the level of the upper surfaces of said side and end walls of said base member, recesses in the top surface of said platform for receiving a razor and a blade container, awrapper secured to and covering the entire underside of said platform, said wrapper including end flaps extending in overlapping relation beneath said platform when the latter is nested within the recess of said base member and a side flap having an inner display surface facing said platform and a cover surface on the opposite side, snap fastening means attached to the side flap cooperating with said first named of fastening means to secure said side flap to said cover in a reversely bent condition with said inner surface of the bent-over portion facing the inside of said cover to conceal said fastening means, the remaining portion of said flap serving as a backdrop for the razor and blade container displayed on said platform concealing said fastening means, said platform being removable from the recess in said base, said end flaps being adapted to extend over the respective ends of said platform and overlap on the top surface thereof to cover Said razor and blade container resting thereon, and a snap fastening means on the underside of said platform, said side flap being of such length as to extend over the adjacent side of said platform, the overlapped end covers, the other side of said platform and partly over the bottom to permit said snap fastening means on said side flap to engage said snap i'fastenintmeans on the underside of said platform, said platform and wrapper forming a travel kit for the razor and blade container.

3. A container for a safety razor set comprising a case including a substantially rectangular base member having side and end walls and a bottom defining a recess and a cover hinged to said base formovements between a closed position covering the recess and an open position wherein it stably rests in a tilted rearward position and exposing said recess, in combination with a substantially rectangular platform disposed within said recess'and extending upwardly to about the level of the upper surfaces of said side and end walls of said base member, recesses in the top surface of said platform for receiving a razor and a blade container, a wrapper secured to said platform includinga side flap having an inner display surface facing said platform and a cover surface on the opposite side, fastening means to secure said side flap detachably to said cover in a reversely bent condition with said inner surface of the bent-over portion facing the inside of said cover to conceal said fastening means, the remaining portion of said flap serving as a backdrop for therazor and blade container displayed on saidplatform, said platform being removable from the recess in said base, said side flap being of such length as to extend over the top of said platform and partly over the bottom to retain said razor and blade container in place on said platform, and fastening means detachably "securing the end of saidfiap to the underside of said platform, said platform and wrapper forming a travel kit for the razor and blade container.

I n combination, a case including a substantially rectan u ar bas hsvins'si en ss wal a d P t ers defining a recess and a cover hinged to one side of said base for movements between a closed position covering the recess and an open position wherein it stably rests in a tilted rearward position and exposing said recess, a substantially rectangular platform disposed within said recess and extending upwardly to about the level of the upper surfaces of said side and end walls of said base, recesses in the top surface of said platform for receiving articles to be displayed thereon, a wrapper secured to and covering the entire underside of said platform, said wrapper including end flaps extending in overlapping relation beneath said platform and a side flap, fastening means attached to the side flap cooperating with fastening means within said cover detachably to secure said side flap to said cover in a reversely bent condition with the inner surface of the bent-over portion facing the inside of said cover to conceal said fastening means, the remaining portion of said flap serving as a backdrop for the articles displayed on said platform, said platform being removable from the recess in said base, said end flaps being adapted to extend over the respective ends of said platform and overlap on the top surface thereof to cover the articles resting thereon, said side flap being of such length as to extend over the adjacent side of said platform, the overlapped end covers, the other side of said platform and partly over the bottom thereof and fastening means to secure the end of said side flap detachably to the underside of said platform, said platform and wrapper forming a travel kit for the articles received within the recesses in said platform.

5. In combination, a case including a substantially rectangular base having side and end walls and a bottom defining a recess and a cover hinged to said base for movements between a closed position covering the recess and an open position wherein it stably rests in a tilted rearward position and exposing said recess, a substantially rectangular platform disposed within said recess and extending upwardly to about the level of the upper surfaces of said side and end walls of said base, means in the top surface of said platform for receiving articles for display, a wrapper secured to the underside of said platform and extending to one side thereof, fastening means for detachably securing said wrapper to said cover in a reversely bent condition to conceal said fastening means, the remaining portion of said flap serving as a backdrop for articles displayed on said platform, said platform being removable from the recess in said base, said wrapper being of such length as to extend over the adjacent side of the top surface, the other side and partly over the bottom of said platform and fastening means for detachably securing the end of said wrapper to the underside of said platform, said platform and wrapper forming a travel kit for the articles received within said receiving means in said platform.

A container comprising a base, a platform detachably supported on said base, a cover attached to said base having a closed position to cover said platform, cooperating means on said base and cover to support said cover in a rearwardly tilted position to expose the platform supported on said base, means on said platform for receiving articles to be displayed thereon, a wrapper secured to said platform comprising a side flap having an inner display surface facing said platform and a cover surface on the opposite side, fastening means to secure said side flap detachably to the under surface of said cover with the inner surface of said flap serving as a back drop for articles displayed on said platform, said side flap being of such length as to extend at least over the top of said platform and articles disposed thereon, and fastening means detachably securing the end of said flap to said platform to form therewith a travel kit for the articles.

7. In combination, a case including a base and a cover hinged to said base, a platform removably supported on said base, said platform including means receiving articles to be displayed thereon, said cover having a closed position covering said platform and an open rearwardly tilting position exposing said platform and articles displayed thereon, a cover flap extending from one side of said platform, fastening means detachably securing said side flap to the underside of said cover to serve as a back drop for the articles displayed on said platform, end flaps extending from the ends of said platform in overlapping relation beneath said platform and adapted to overlap the top surface thereof and the articles resting thereon, said side flap being of such length as to extend over the top surface ofsaid platform, articles displayed thereon and said overlapping end flaps, and means to secure the end of said side flap detachably to the underside of said platform, said platform and cover flaps forming a travel kit for the articles on said platform.
