Albert, 1207 Ogletree, Dixon, Ill. Filed Feb. 3, 1964, Ser. No. 342,311 4 Claims. (Cl. 132-79) The present invention relates to a structure for packaging portions of controlled cosmetics, and more particularly relates to an apparatus for cosmetics in which are stored substantial amounts of cosmetics in a small, attractive and lightweight container that is easily adapted to be carried by hand as a tote bag or caddy, for use when shopping and is adapted to fit within the glove compartment of an automobile, in a desk drawer, and is neat and compact for home use and is instantly adapted for packing for travel.
It is a main object of the invention to provide a cosmetic apparatus that is useful and convenient for carrying.
A further object of the invention is to preserve factory freshness, assure sanitation, prevent breakage or spillage,
. provide economy and eliminate unnecessary bulk.
The above and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent upon full consideration of the following detailed description and accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 shows a complete assemblage of the component parts of the invention in a perspective view;
FIG. 2 shows a vertical cross-sectional view taken toward the front of the assembled apparatus in which the lid is down;
FIG. 3 is a broken away, cross-sectional view taken along a vertical component of the cosmetic apparatus of the invention;
FIG. 4 is a perspective view' of a tray used in the cosmetic container;
FIG. 5 shows a top view taken along lines 55 of FIG. 3 in which the cosmetic tracks are at the bottom of the cosmetic apparatus and beneath the tray thereof;
FIG. 6 shows a cross-sectional view taken along lines 66 of FIG. 5 of a track opening; and
FIG. 7 is a perspective view of a series capsule used in accordance with the concept of the invention.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a cosmetic apparatus for the invention in which there is one conwhen desired. The capsules, of course, are made in various sizes, as shown in FIG. 7, depending upon the substance being packaged. A capsule 1 is shown as being sealed along a flat connecting portion 2, and has a perforated cut section 3.
The apparatus for the cosmetic caddy may be molded of plastic material. The top is covered with a hinged lid 4, as shown in FIG. 1, having a top 5 and sidewalls 6, a front wall 7, a back wall 8 from which is also supported the'hinge 9, as shown in FIG. 1. I
The tray fits into the upper part of the caddy structure particularly resting upon a track wall arrangement which 3,258,017 Patented June 28, 1966 is provided below it for support. The tray is constructed of molded plastic material and is proportioned to house the useful items in separate compartments as follows: a comb is disposed between walls 11 and 12, a nail file and small scissors are provided between walls 12 and 13, an eyebrow pencil and lipstick brush are disposed between walls 13 and 14, between walls 15 and 16 is provided a purse-size hair spray container, between walls 16 and 17 bobby pins are stored, between walls 17 and 18 lipstick is stored, nail polish and polish remover are stored within the Walls formed by elements 18, 19, 20 and 21; within walls formed by elements 18, 20, 21 and 22 eye makeup may be stored; and within elements 18, 20, 22 and 14 mascara may be stored. A mirror may rest upon the top of the tray.
As is seen in the drawings, the tray may have an indentation along the wall 16a for allowing space for movement of the hinge 9.
As is seen above, there are provided partition walls 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 21, and 22, while a sidewall 15, a front wall 19, a sidewall 20, a bottom 23 and a fastening catch 24 are also provided and illustrated.
In the cosmetic apparatus there is a cosmetic track and a cover member made of molded plastic formed as a single member. One end of each track opens at one side of the front wall, and inside of the opening of each track a strip of foam plastic may be glued to each side of the wall for holding the capsules in place even during movement of the cosmetic caddy. The capsules will be placed in a vertical position in the tracks and the fiat sealed connection will protrude through strips of foam plastic for allowing one to grasp and remove the capsule when needed. These small tracks are for the capsules containing a smaller portion of substance than some others, the shorter tracks being for those used less frequently than others, such as shampoo. These tracks will house an all purpose cream in compartment 26, a cleansing cream in compartment 27, a hand cream in compartment 28, astringent in compartment 29, shampoo in compartment 30, tinted makeup in compartment 31, and cheek color in compartment 32, all of which are illustrated in FIG. 2.
Component members of the caddy are a foam plastic material 25; the cosmetic tracks are disposed in the aforesaid compartments 26-32, inclusive; the track walls are 33-39, inclusive, while the bottom wall 44 is shown connected to a front wall 41, a sidewall 42, a sidewall 43, a back wall 44 which is used for mounting the hinge 9.
Additional embodiments of the invention in this specification will occur to others and therefore it is intended that the scope of the invention be limited only by the appended claims and not by the embodiment described hereinabove. Accordingly, reference should be made to the following claims in determining the full scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. A cosmetic case comprising a molded plastic box having a front wall, a back wall, two'opposed side walls, a bottom wall and a hinged lid attached to said back wall, a plurality of first molded plastic spaced vertical partition walls connected to said bottom wall defining a plurality of storage compartments therebetween, each of said storage compartments having an opening extending through said front wall defining a plurality of spaced slots and each of the slots being provided with opposed pieces of foam plastic material defining a space therebetween for retention of cosmetic capsules, a tray of molded plastic having its outside dimension coextensive with the inside dimensions of the box when resting on the top of said first partition walls and being rcmovably mounted and supported upon the top portion of said first partition walls, said tray having second vertical sectional partition walls of molded plastic for reception of various cosmetic items therebetween.
2. The invention of claim 1 wherein cosmetic elements are disposed within the tray and storage compartments of said box.
3. The invention of claim 1 wherein a plurality of cosmetic elements in the form of plastic capsules are disposed within the storage compartments of said box and said capsules are of various sizes for retaining therein various contours of portion controlled cosmetics.
4. The invention according to claim 3 wherein said elements of plastic capsules are made in a continuous strip.
