This invention relates to beauty kits.

An object of the invention; is to provide an improved beauty kit of desired contour or form, comprising an enclosure having an inner wall securely supporting a plurality of receptacles or compartments each provided with an individual closure that may be detached or moved to open position to afford access to the contents of the respective receptacles or compartments, a lid for the kit attached thereto by a hinge permitting and controlling movement of the lid from closed position to a position adjacent to the opposite side of the kit, and means for supporting the device and retaining the kit and lid in relatively fixed positions during use of the device.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved beauty kit comprising an enclosure having a greater depth at one side than at the other, and having an inner wall securely supporting various receptacles or compartments of different sizes according to the requirements or needs of the user for the beauty aids contained therein.

Another object of the invention is to provide a tapering beauty kit supporting in one side thereof a plurality of receptacles or compartments of different sizes containing different amounts of cosmetics or the like and provided with closures that can be released or opened to permit access to the contents of the receptacles or compartments, or to permit them to be refilled as oocasion may require, and an adjacently supported mirror facilitating the use of the device in applying the beauty aids. I

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved beauty kit having means therein for supporting a removable and replaceable roll of cleansing tissue in a relationship to facilitate the use of the device while attached to one hand of the user.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved beauty kit comprising an enclosure and a lid hinged thereto, in combination with means for holding the lid and the closure in substantially fixed relationship upon the hand ,of the user to afford access to various receptacles or compartments within the kit and which are exposed when the kit is open.

Various other objects and advantages of the invention will-be apparent from the following description, reference being made to the annexed drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a side elevation of an embodiment of my improved beauty kitopen and engaged with the hand of the user.

The inner wall I is attached to an enclosing wall 2 to form an enclosure 3 having a greater depth at one side than at the other. A plurality of relatively large receptacles 4 are attached to the wall I and extend into the enclosure 3 at the deeper side of said enclosure, and a plurality of receptacles 5 are attached to the wall I and extend into the shallow side of the receptacle (Figs. 2 and 6). The wall I is substantially rigid and inflexible so as to support the several receptacles or compartments properly. These receptacles or compartments 4 and 5 are preferably removable and replaceable, an appropriate mounting being shown in Fig. 13, comprising a resilient ring 6 enclosing the outer end of each receptacle or compartment. The rings 6 are mounted in openings in the wall I, and may be formed with flanges 'I to seat against the outer surface of the wall I.

Each receptacle is provided with a closure which, as shown, includes a frame 8 supporting a transparent panel 9 through which the contents of the receptacles may be seen. Each frame 8 is attached to the supporting ring 6 by a hinge l0, permitting the closure to be moved from closed position to open position, and vice versa.

These hinges may be of the friction type so that they will retain or hold the respective closures in the positions to which they may be moved and will substantially prevent oscillation of the closures when they are open. Each closure may be formed with a latch detent ll (Fig. 13) to engage Within the attached receptacle when closed. A finger piece l2 may be formed on each frame 8 opposite from the hinge I!) to facilitate opening the same.

In the arrangement shown (Figs, 2 and 8), the wall I is formed with a depressed portion l3, and a hinge I4 is attached to the wall I at one side of said depressed portion. Preferably, the depressed portion i3 is circular and is located eccentrically with respect to the circular wall I and toward the shallow side thereof to provide space for the large receptacles 4 at the deeper portion of the compartment 3. An annular frame I5 is -mounted on the hinge l4 and supports a convex mirror it cooperating with the wall of the depressed portion i3 to form an enclosure adapted to receive and retain a cosmetic applicator such, for instance, as a powder puff II. In Fig. 6, the frame l5 and mirror iii are in closed position and will retain the device I! in the enclosure provided thereby. The depressed wall I3 is formed with an opening l8 for the discharge of powder or the like from a drawer l9 mounted for sliding movements upon supports 28 attached to the concealed side of the wall H3. The top wall 2| of the drawer I9 is formed with an opening 22 which registers or communicates with the opening l8 when the closure comprising the mirror I6 is open (Fig, 8), and which is closed by the wall 13 when the mirror I6 is in closed position. The frame l5 has a spring detent 23 which engages within the depressed portion l3 and yieldingly holds the mirror IS in its closed position.

The frame I5 is formed with an arm 24 which is engaged With a projection 25 attached tothe drawer l9. When the frame I5 is operated to move the mirror E6 to open position, the arm 24 automatically moves the drawer [9 to a position in which the opening 22 registers and communicates with the opening I8; and, when the mirror 16 is moved to closed position, the drawer I9 is moved to the position shown in Fig. 6, in which the opening 22 is closed by the wall I3.

From the foregoing, it is apparent that this portion of the kit supports the various cosmetics ordinarily used for make-up purposes in approximately the proportions needed. The larger receptacles 4 may easily be refilled with creams, cosmetic bases, etc., while the smaller receptacles may contain such cosmetics as rouge, eye shadow, lip rouge, and other preparations used in smaller quantities than the creams. Moreover, the transparent panels 9 permit observation of the contents of the various receptacles without opening the closures therefor.

In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1-to '7, the cooperating portion of the kit comprises a substantially rigid and inflexible inner wall 25 attached to an enclosing wall 26 to form an enclosure 21 having a greater depth at one side than at the other. In this arrangement, the two portions of the kit have approximately the same contour and their deeper sides or ends are connected by a double hinge device 21', permitting the two parts of the kit to be moved from closed position, as shown in Fig. 5, to open position, as shown in Fig. 1, and vice versa.

The wall 25 is formed with a number of openings at the shallow side of the enclosure 21, and containers 28 are secured within said openings and provided with sliding closures 29 mounted in guides 29. If desired, these closures may be mounted otherwise for movement to afford access to the contents of the containers 28. These containers are adapted to i receive and hold any needed toilet facilities, such as mascara brushes and other articles. A fiat mirror 30 is mounted in a frame 3| connected with the wall 25 by a hinge 32 and having a spring latch 33 at its opposite side. The mirror 38 constitutes a closure for an opening 34 in'the wall 25 at the deeper portion of the enclosure 21. A quantity of cleansing tissue 35 may be mounted in the deeper portion of the enclosure 3 between resilient ears 36, and the tissue 35 may be extended through a slot 31 adjacent to the hinge 32 for convenient withdrawal for use. The tissue 35 may be in the form of a roll or other arrangement, as desired. All of the parts that are supported by the wall 25 are frictionally or otherwise held from displacement so that, when the kit is opened, as in Fig. 1, none of said parts can become detached or lost. I

A strap 38 is shown attached to the outer inclined wall of the enclosure 3, and a similar strap 39 is shown attached to the outer inclined wall of the enclosure 21; so that, when the kit is opened as in Fig. 1, the hand of the user may I be extended through the straps 38 and 39 and the kit thereby held openand conveniently supported in position to use either side of the kit. Or, as shown in Fig. 14, the strap 38 and the adjacent wall 26 may be provided with engageable and releasable fastener elements 49. This arrangement permits the hand to be inserted through the strap 38 and the strap 39 to be omitted.

The device shown in Figs. 15 to 19 comprises a substantially rigid and inflexible inner wall 4! and attached walls 42 forming a tapered angular enclosure 43. The wall 4| at the deeper side of the enclosure 43 is formed with an opening 44. A closure 45 for said opening is mounted on a hinge 46 and has a slot 41 through which the cleansing tissue 48 may be withdrawn from a roll 49. The roll 49 is shown on a spool 50 rotatively and removably supported by brackets 5| attached to one of the Walls 42. The roll 49 of tissue may be inserted through the opening 44 and removed and replaced as needed.

The wall 4| supports containers 52 like the containers 4, and containers 53 like the containers 5, for analogous purposes, and also supports containers like the containers 28 and equipped with sliding closures 54 mounted in slides 55 in the manner of the slides 29 that are mounted in the guides 29. The hinged closures 5B for the containers 52,- and the hinged closures 51 for the containers 53, are analogous to the closures 9. A mirror 58 is mounted in a frame 59 attached to the wall 4l by a hinge S0 to permit said mirror to be moved from closed position to open position and thereby afford access to the enclosure 43 as desired.

The lid BI is attached to the wall 42 at the deeper side of the enclosure 43 by a double hinge 6 2 which permits said lid to be swung from closed position, as shown by solid lines in Fig. 7 5

17, to open position at the opposite side of the kit, as shown in Fig. 16. The straps 63 and 64 are attached to the lid 6| and to the rear Wall 42, respectively, and are analogous to the straps 33 and 39 and for the same purpose. A mirror 65 is attached to the inner side of the lid BI and may be considerably larger than the mirror 53 and of different contour or shape, as desired. Fasteners 66 may be provided to hold the kits closed.

A beauty kit or cosmetic container formed in substantial conformity with the preceding disclosure will supply all usual. or anticipated requirements for a complete make-up. Th respective containers for the different cosmetics are securely attached to a, substantially inflexible part of the kit but may be removed for replacement by others of like size as desired; or the difierent containers may be refilled from time to time with similar or difierent cosmetics. The entire devic may be supported by either hand of the user at all needed angles of observation without possibility of displacement of any of the containers in the kit because of their secure attachment thereto and without danger of dropping the kit itself because of th arrangement of the supporting straps. The containers are preferably of graduated sizes to hold different amounts of cosmetic supplies. Usually, the smaller receptacles will contain color materials because relatively small quantities of these materials is ordinarily used, while the larger receptacles contain other materials, such as creams, of which larger quantities are needed. The fact that the kit can be supported for use at difierent angles without possibility of disarrangement enables the user to make most effective and satisfactory use of the device even while traveling.

It should now be apparent that this improved kit may be made in difl'erent forms and shapes as desired, and arranged to suppport various preparations and articles. The kit may be held open and supported by one hand of the user extending into the space between the two hinged parts of the kit and turned to different positions so that either side of the kit may be used as desired. The closures for the various compartments and containers are arranged so that they will not vibrate or oscillate when open, or become accidentally opened when they are closed. The form and arrangement of the device may be varied in numerous particulars without departure from the nature and principle of the invention.

I claim:

1. A beauty kit comprising a. substantially rigid inner wall and outer walls attached thereto and cooperating therewith to form a compartment, a plurality of receptacles attached to and opening through said inner wall, closures for said respective receptacles, a covering member for said inner wall having hinged connection with said walls for swinging movements from a position to cover and conceal said receptacles to a position adjacent to the opposite side of said compartment to provide an intermediate hand receiving space, and engageable means attached to said compartment and to said covering member for holding said compartment and said covering member substantially immovable relatively when said covering member is in said last named positlon.

2. A beauty kit comprising a substantially rigid inner wall and outer walls attached thereto and cooperating therewith to form a compartment of increasing depth from one side to the opposite side, a plurality of receptacles of different sizes I attached to and opening through said inner Wall,

closures for said respective receptacles, a covering member for said inner wall having hinged connection with said walls for swinging movements from a position to cover and conceal said receptacles to a position adjacent to the opposite side of said compartment to provide an intermediate hand receiving space, and manually engageable means attached to said compartment and to said covering member for holding said compartment and said covering member substantially stationary relatively while said covering member is in said last named position.

3. A beauty kit comprising a substantially rigid inner wall and outer walls attached thereto and cooperating therewith to form a compartment, a plurality of receptacles supported by and opening through said inner wall, a mirror hinged to said inner wall, and means operated by said mirror for moving one of said receptacles from closed position to open position and vice versa.

4. Abeauty kit comprising a substantially rigid inner wall and outer walls attached thereto and cooperating therewith to form a compartment, a plurality of receptacles supported by and opening through said inner wall, a mirror hinged to said inner wall, means operated by said mirror for moving one of said receptacles from closed position to open position and vice versa, and an applicator for the contents of said last named receptacle removably supported between said mirror and said inner wall.

5. A beauty kit comprising a substantially rigid inner wall having an elongated slot and also having an enlarged opening therethrough, outer walls attached to said inner wall and cooperating therewith to form a compartment, means for supporting arch of cleansing tissue in said compartment for withdrawal through said slot, and a hinged mirror closure for said opening movable to position to permit insertion of said roll through said opening.

6. A beauty kit comprising a substantially rigid inner wall having an elongated slot and also having an enlarged opening therethrough, outer walls attached to said inner wall and cooperating therewith to form a compartment, means for supporting a roll of cleansing tissue in said compartment for withdrawal through said slot, a hinged mirror closure for said opening movable to position to permit insertion of said roll through said opening, a covering member for said inner wall having hinged connection with said walls for swinging movements from a position to cover and conceal said inner wall to a position adjacent to the opposite side of said compartment to form a hand receiving space between said covering member and said compartment, and engageable means attached to said covering member and said compartment walls for holding said covering member and said compartment substantially stationary relative to each other when the kit is supported by the hand of the user in engagement with said engageable means.
