ALBERT MOgHEIM, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY.
VANITY CASE.
Application led January 13, 1923. Serial No. 612,416.
To all whom t may concern.' f
Be it known that I, ALBERT MosHEIM, a citizen of the .United States,` and a resident of East Orange, in the county of lEssex and State of NewJersey, have invented new and useful Improvements invVanity Cases, of which'the following is a `full, clear, and eXact4 description.
This invention relates to vanity cases. p
The general object of this invention is the provision of a simple, compact and attractive vanity case having a compartment for a powder cake, a compartment for rouge, and a space in which a lip stick may be placed, said compartments i being adapted for containing `the necessary means for applying' the articles contained in them. f
A further object of the invention isthe provision of a vanity case, the compartments of which are so separated that there is no danger of the' contents oi' one compartment being spilled into another compartment, and which is so constructed that one compartment may be closed while the othercompartment is in use.
These objects are accomplished by providing a casing including a main bodyportion to which a lid carrying a mirror 1s hinged, and mounting in the 'body portion a frame for supporting a powder'cake in the upper part of the body portion, sl1dably mounting in the bottom of the body portion a drawer that may be operated when the lid is closed and which is held in any desired position by dependinglmem'- bers carried by the frame, mounting 1n .the drawer a rim for holding rouge and a powder puff, and `forming' from the bottomof the drawer upturned members for holding a lip stick.
These and other objects of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following detailed description and accompanying drawings.
lFigure 1 is a top plan view of'the vanity case opened; .y
Figure 2 is a vertical section along the line 2 2, Figure 1, showing the construction of the vanity case;
Figure 3 is a vertical section along theV line 3-3, Figure 2; .y
Figure 4 is ahorizontal section along the line 4-4, Figure 3, showing `a top plan viewof the drawer; y
Figure 5 is a perspective View of the frame mounted in the casing for supporting the powder cake.` 4 f v f f Referring to the above-'mentioned drawings, Ithe invention includes a casing l10 in` cluding a main body portion 11 to which alid 12 ishinged at 18. Mounted inthe lidl 12 is a mirror 14 for ,the convenienceof' the user in applying the articles contained v in the' vanity case. A frame 15, including a rim .16` carrying4 a circular plate 17, two portions of which are doubled together and bent downward at right'angles to the plate 17, forming depending members 18 and I19, is mounted in the main body portion 11. A oowder cake 20` mounted on a plate 22- is located in` the rim 16 and supported on the plate 17. Positioned on the powder cake .and contained within the rim 16 is a powder purl' 21 for applyingthepowder.
An opening 28, approximately equal `in width to the distance between the depending members 18 and 19, is cut in the wall oit' the bodyvportion 11. A drawer-`24-, shaped to fit into the opening 23, is slidablymounted in the bottom'o the body portion 1l, sliding between the depending members 18 and 19' which frictionally engage it sol as to retainy it in any desired position. Cut in the Vbottom of the body portion 11 is a slot 25 which extends parallel to the depending members- 18 and 19. A guide 26 attached to the drawer 24 slides in theslot 25 and serves to limit the movement ofthe drawer. An annularl member 33, in ther form of a rim, is mounted in thedrawer 424 forming a compartment for rouge and for thepuii' 29 for applying the rouge. Inturnedlips 27 and 28 are formed integral with the rim for engaging the powder puff 29 to retain it in`position in the annular member 33 and to'holdit low enough in .the drawer to prevent it from engaging'the main body portion,thus restricting' the free movement of the drawer. vrIwo prongs Bland 32 are projected upward from theJ ybottom ofthe `drawer 24. These prongs" are spaced` from the annular number 38 a suiiicientdistance to allow the placing of a lipstick 30.!be-
The depending in any desired position. The drawer may be opened without opening the lid l2, thus the user may apply the rouge without any danger of spilling it into the compartment containing the powder cake 20. Normally, in using this vanity case, the lid would be opened to present the mirror to the user and then the rouge and powder might be applied as desired.
l would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment ot my invention l do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated since manifestly the same can be `considerably varied without departing from the spirit of the invention as deiined in the appended claims.
