G. PARENT VANITY CASE April s, l1930.
Filed Feb. 2, 1929 ATTORNEYS.
Patented Apr. 8, 1930 UNITED STATES GASTON PARENT, oF PARIS, FBACE u 'VANITY CASE Application led February 2, 1929. Serial No. 337,129. l
My invention relates to a l.new and improved vanity case. f
One of the objects of my invention. 1s to provide an improved vanity case having a plurality of compartments, Yone of said compartments being slidahly mounted upon the other.
Another object of my invention is to provide a vanity case having a main compartment provided with a hinge cover, and having a second or lower compartment slidahly connected to the main compartment. Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the type above mentioned in which a lipstick holder or the like, is slidably connected to the lower or supplemental compartment.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of this type which shall he simple and economical to manufacture and -to use.
Other objects of my invention will be set forth in the following description and drawings which illustrate a preferred embodiment thereof, it being understoodlthat the above .general statement of the objects of my invention is intended merely to generally eX- plain the same and not'to limit it in any manner.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device in the closed position. v
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device in the open position.
Fig. 3 1s a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal central section of the device in the open condition.
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal central section of the device in the closed condition. i
Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view on the line 7-7 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the lipstick holder.
The device comprises a main compartment 1 having a hollow extension 2 connected to the rear thereof. v This hollow extension may be considered as constituting the rear portion of the device, to which the main compartment 1 is secured. The main compartment 1 is provided with an insert 15, which is adapted to hold a cosmetic such as a compact of face powder or the like. For this purpose the rear wall of the insert 15 is provided with a blade 55 spring 12 which is adapted to releasably hold a compact or placque of face powder or the like. The main compartment is provided with a cover 3 which is connected thereto by means of a hinge 4. The cover 3 is provided 6o with a mirror 6 held therein by a suitable frame.
The supplemental sliding compartment 5 is provided with flanges 14, which cooperate with guides 14 connected to the underside of e5 the main compartment 1. The bottom of the main compartment 1 is provided with downwardly directed tongues 20 which are preferably stamped out of the bottom of said compartment 1.
For convenience, the device is referred to as being held in the horizontal position, although it is obvious that the operation thereof does not depend upon the position in which it is held.
All the parts, save the mirror 6, are made of any suitable metal. Likewise, the bottom of the main compartment 1 may be continuous with the adjacent artial vertical wall 1a of the extension 2, as c early shown in Fig. 80 5. This partial wall 1%, which does not eX- tend to the top of rear portion 2, may he considered as constituting a partial lower front wall of said rear portion. The tongues 20 serve to limit theforward sliding move 85 ment of thelbottom compartment 5. One of the walls of the compartment 5 is perforated so that a lipstick holder 7 can be slidably inserted therein. The bottom compartment 5 is also provided with a partition 16 to form 90 a pocket or sub-compartment in which the lipstick holder case 7 can slidably fit. This partition 16 is provided with an outwardly bent blade spring 16a which serves to hold a cake or placque of suitable cosmetic, such 95 as a cake of rouge for example, in said bottom compartment 5. The lipstick holder case 7 is provided with a longitudinal slot 18. The lipstick L is held in the usual inner holder 11 provided with a pin 8 which fits slid- 103 ably in said longitudinal slot 18. Said guide pin 8 is also adapted to fit in the longitudinal recess 9 provided in the bottom of the compartment 5 adjacent the opening in its wall which has been previously mentioned.
It is obvious that-the lipstick holder 7 can be removed whenever desired without manipulating any other part of the device. Likewise, the compartment 5 may be independently slid forward to utilize the cosmetic therein, and the cover 6 may be opened to independently utilize the cosmetic held in the main compartment.
Of course, the main and supplemental compartments could have puits or pads located therein, in addition .to the cakes or placques of cosmetic.
The lipstick holder 7 has a frictional fit in the lower compartment'so that it cannot lVhen the device is in the closed position shown in Figs. 1 and 5, the bottom of the lower compartment 5 is at the same level as the bottoni of the extension 2 so that a compact and neat device is provided.
l have shown a` preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is clear that numerous changes and omissions can be madewithout departing from the spirt of my invention.
I claim:
1. A vanity case comprising a rear portion, a main compartment secured to said rear portion and having guide means connected to the underside thereof, a cover hinged to said main compartment, and a slidable compartment located below and slidably connected to said guide means.
2. A vanity case comprising a rear portion, a main compartment secured to said rear portion and having guide means connected to the underside thereof, a cover hinged to said main compartment, and a slidable compartment located below and slidabl y connected to said guide means, the bottom of the sliding compartment heilig` at substantially the level of said rear portion and the cover being at substantially the level of the top of said rear portion when the cover is in the closed position.
3. A vanity case comprising a rear portion having a partial lower front wall to which a main compartment is secured, said main compartment having a cover hinged thereto, said main compartment having a slidable compartment slidably connected to guide means located on said main compartment.
4. A vanity case comprising a rear por-A tion, a main compartment secured thereto, guide means connected to said main compartment, a slidable compartment located below said main compartment and having second guide means adapted to cooperate with the first mentioned guide means, and stop means connected to the bottom of the said main compartment and adapted to limit the forward sliding movement of the slidable compartment, and a cover connected to the said main compartment.
5. In a vanity case, the combination of a compartment having a partition spaced from one of its walls to provide a sub-compartment for a' cosmetic holder case, one of the lwalls of said sub-compartment having an opening to admit said case, a cosmetic holder slidably located in said case, said case having a longitudinal slot, said holder having a guide pin projecting through said slot, said sub-compartment having a recess in a wall thereof to slidably receive said guide pin, so that said pin serves to guide the sliding movement of said case in said sub-compartment and to guide the sliding movement of said holder in said case.
G. A vanity case comprising a rear portion having a partial lower front wall, a
pocket for holding a receptacle, a lipstick receptacle adapted to be located in said pocket, one of the side walls of said lower compartment having an opening adapted to permit the entry of saidreceptacle, said lipstick receptacle having a longitudinal slot and a lipstick holder slidably mounted therein, said holder having a guide pin projecting through said slot, the bottom Wall of said lower compartment having a recess adapted to receive said pin, the bottom of said lower compartment being substantially flush with the bottom of said rear portion, the said cover when in the closed condition being substantially flush with the top of said rear ortion.
In testimony whereof I a X my signature.
