Description
NOV. 17, 1931. DERMAN 1,831,847
I CABINET Filed June 18. 1929 INVENTOR fl yp rman Patented Nov. 17, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HARRY DERMAN, OF BRONX, NEW YORK CABINET Application filed June 18,
hats, shoes, etc., and furthermore, provided with common toilet accessories, as soap, towels, powders, perfumes, in additlon to a mirror, all being readily accessible to an individual who may or may not share the conveniences with another.
A further feature is in the provision of means for retaining the articles stored temporarily therein, free from dust, held agalnst displacement from ordinary causes, yet ready of reach by those authorized.
Another purpose is in the production of a cabinet in which the articles are compactly stored, that occupies a minimum of space only and is readily portable.
These several advantageous objects are attained by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and in which Fig. 1 is a perspectiveview of a cabinet made in accordance with the invention, with the lid raised to disclose the mirror and articles held in the compartment therebelow.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same, partially in section to show the construction.
The cabinet may be described as an upright rectangular box generally designated by the numeral 5, having a flanged lid 6, connected to the rear wall by hinges 7, and provided with a strap 8 or the like to limit the angle of its opening.
In the lower part of the cabinet are two drawers 9-10, arranged to contain shoes, rubbers and the like, above which are a series of wider drawers 1112 and 13, all provided with pulls 14 and in which may be placed various articles of clothing and other objects such as are usually required in performing toilet operations.
1929. Serial No. 371,937.
Certain of the drawers may be subdivided by partitions and the arrangement indicated is suggestive rather than limitative, as will be understood.
Above the upper drawer 13, is preferably a space 15, serving as a compartment to re ceive hats and other articles which would be damaged bycrushings, this compartment being accessible by removing a cover plate 16, normally resting upon cleats 17 secured on the inner side of the cabinet walls, the cover being rendered easily removable by finger openings 18 at its edges.
In the upper side of the cover 16 are a series of recesses 19, each being adapted to receive the lower portions of powder boxes, cosmetics, puffs and the like in such manner that their tops are disposed in a substantially level uniform plane.
Fixed in the lid 6, so as to be protected by its flanges, is a mirror 20 so disposed that when the lid is closed as to merely clear the tops of the articles nested in the recesses and prevent their inadvertent displacement, it will hold the brush and boxes loosely but securely in position.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a convenient and commodious cabinet, particularly appropriate for women, has been dis closed in the preferred form of its embodiment, but it will be obvious that changes may be made within the scope of the claim hereto appended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A cabinet having a series of drawers, a compartment above the drawers, said compartment having a removable cover tray containing recesses to receive and guide portions of objects placed therein, a flanged lid hinged to said cabinet and a mirror set inside of said lid, said lid operating to retain the objects in their recesses when closed.
Signed at New York, in the county and State of New York, this 7th day of June, 1929.
HARRY DERMAN.
