UNITEDA STATES CECILE n. cRoSwIIIrE, or KANSAS cIfrY, MISSOURI.
VANITY CASE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CECILE E. CROSWHI'IE,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Vanity Cases, of whichfthe following is a Specification.
My invention relates to improvements in vanity cases.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide, in a vanity case, novel powder. containing means by which powder in said containing means is held from being accidentally spilled therefrom when the case is being used.
My invention provides further, in a vanity case, a novel device for releasably holding a comb and also securing a mirror in the case.
Still another object of my invention is to provide a novel vanity case, which is simple, ornamental, easily operated, durable, and not liable to get out of order.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view, reduced, of my improved vanity case, shown closed.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section, also enlarged, on the line 3 3 of Fig. 4, the case being` shown in an open position.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
My improved vanity case is provided with two preferably rectangular members consisting of two boxes 1 and 2, which are connected together by means of a hinge 3, provided with a pintle 4, disposed parallel with and adjacent to the adjacent edges of the boxes 1 and 2. v
In the box l, is provided a partition plate 5, which is disposed parallel with and spaced apart from the bottom of the box 1, so as to form a chamber adapted to receive powder 6 and a powder puff 7. One edge of the partition 5 is spaced apart from the wall 8 of the chamber, so as to form an opening Application filed May 22, 1925. Serial No..'32,038.
9 Ifor theinsertio-n into said chamber of the powder 6 and the powder puff 7. l
Hinged to the pintle 4 is a cover 10, which is adapted to be swung from the open posi. tion shown in Figs. 3 and 4, to a closed position shown in Fig. 2, in which it will lie against the partition plate 5, and. will cover the chamber which is adapted to containy the -powder 6 and the puff 7. Y
The plate 10 may form the bottom of a box having two chambers 11 and 12, adapted to receive desired articles and adapted to be closed by a'hinged lid 13 provided on its outer side with a resilient plate 14 adapted to serve with the lid 13 as a card receiver, one end of the plate 14 being free and adapted to bear against the lid 13, and the other end being rigidly attached to the lid.
15 designates a mirror mounted in the box 2 against the bottom of the latter, and which is secured therein by a plate 16, having an observation opening 17 which registers with the mirror 15. Three edges of the plate 16 are respectively fastened to the adjacent inner walls of the box 2, said plate allel with the bottom of the box 2.
Projecting from the other edge of the plate 16, are two U-shaped arms 18, which are preferably' resilient, and which are adapted to receive between them and to revfm being disposed against the/mirror 15 pararticles, said compartments being normally covered by a hinged lid 21, which may carry a' rouge box 22 and a plurality of coin hold-V ers 23, and also a paper holding clip 24.
The box 2 may be provided with any suitable catch 25 which is adapted toengage the box 1 to releasably hold the cover box 2 in the closed position. The box 1 at opposite sides and adjacent to one end may be provided with a suitable handle, such as a chain 26, Fig. 1.
In the operation of the device, when the case is closed and is in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the powder puff 7 and the partition plate 5 hold the powder from sifting out of the box.
and cover 10 are swung to the open position, shown in Figs. 3 and 4, at which time the puff 7 may be removed for use, and access may be hadto the differentcompartments in the oase.
I do not limit my invention t0 the specic features shown and described', as many modifications, Within the scope of the ap pended claim, may be made Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is:
In a vanity case, two boXes hinged to each other', one being adapted to form a cover for;
the'other, a mirror mounted in one of the boxes against the .bottom thereof, and a plate disposed parallel with and against the mirror and having an observation opening registering with said mirror7 and having at one edge two U-shaped arms adapted to receive between them and to hold releasably a comb, said plate being attached to the box in which it is located.
-In testimony whereof I have signed *my name to this specification. Y Y
