Description

SeP- 27 1932. R. F. MoRENus l 1,879,407.
COMPACT Filed Nov. 21, 19251 J4 /N/E/VTUR le. r-. Mosanus /4 Fi-DRAME 5/ Patented Sept. 27, 1932 YUNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE' ROBERT F. MORENUS, OF PORTLAND, OREGON v coMrAc'r Application led November 21, 1931.
This invention relates generally to toiletV articles, and particularly to a compact.
The main object of this invention is to provide a new form of compact which will apparent from the specification following as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a perspective view of the closed compact.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the compact with one side open, the powder puff removed and the powder compartment open.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the opposite side of the compact showing its cover open with the rouge puff removed.
Fig. 4 is a section through the compact taken along the line 4 4 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the puff.
Similar numbers of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the compact consists of a somewhat `rectangular frame including the ends and 11 and the sides 12, between which sides 12 is placed a dividing wall 13. The wall 13 extends to the edges 14 but does not extend to the edges 15 of the sides 12. The wall 13 is joined along the edge 14 by means of a Hoor 16 to the end 10 where it is turned inwardly to form a supporting ledge 17 having a cover 18 which is joined by the hinge 19 to the wall 13. A suitable latch 20 is provided for holding the cover 18 in place. A lifter tab 21.is secured to the cover 18 for raising same when desired.
On the side of the wall 13 opposite the cover 10 and parallel with the floor 16 is a rouge compartment floor 22 which extends to the end 1l, to which end is attached a powder compartment cover 23 by means of the hinge 211. A spring latch 25 is provided for the Serial No. 576,455.
cover 23 and a notch 26 is formed inthe side of the cover 23 near the latch 25 to facilitate the opening thereof.
The space between the wall 13 and the end 11 constitutes a rouge compartmenty and contains a tray 27y for the rouge 28. y A rouge puff 29 is stored Vdirectly against the rouge 28. A rouge compartment cover 30 is joined to the end 10 by means of a hinge 31. The., j
cover 30 is provided with ajlatch 25V and a"" notch 26 similar to those on the cover 23. It is desirable to provide a powder puff 32 which extends across the outer side of the' floor 22 and the cover 18. i
It will be observed that the which is normally in loose form, occupies the compartment between the wall 13 and the end 10 and that this powder is confined within the powder space provided therefor within the cover 18.
which is of course very objectionable from the users standpoint. By having the hinges and snaps on opposite ends confusion inthe opening of same 1s avoided.
I am aware that numerous changes in the details of this device may be made; I therefore do not lintend to limit myself to the precise form illustrated and described herein, but I do intend to cover all such forms and modifications thereof as fall fairly within the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A compact consisting of a container divided into two compartments accessible from opposite sides of opposite ends of said container, a hinged cover for one of said com- ...f
partments within said container, and outside icovers for the opposite sides of said compact.
2. A compactconsisting of a rectangular frame having a recessed compartment at one end of one side thereof and a second compart- DIU ment at the opposite end of the opposite Side thereof, one of said compartments having a hinged closure within said frame, cover members for opposite sides of said frame hinged to opposite ends thereof, and means for latching said 'cover members independently into a closed position.
3. A compact having a rouge compartment f at one end of one side thereof and a powder compartment at the opposite end of the opposite side thereof, and 1a closure for each side of said compact hinged thereto at the end opposite its respective -powder or rouge ycompartment.
4. A compact having a rouge compartment at one end of one side thereof and a `powder Y Vcompartment at the opposite end of the opposite side thereof, and an independent closure for-each side of said compact hinged thereto at the end opposite its respective powder or rouge compartment, said powder compartment having anv independent closure within said compact.A
5. A compact consisting of a rectangular receptacle having a transverse partition dividing same into two compartments, said compartments opening on opposite sides thereof,
, and a cover member for each side of said receptacle extending along the full length thereof and hinged thereto at opposite ends of said receptacle.
