KIT BOX Filed March 20, 1928' Sheets-Sheet 2 ..!!!lll" lm lllllllllll .....IIImml|ullIlllIllll|lllllflilllllllllliiiiifiifiuu INVENTOR Nick Simos WITNESSES ATTORNEY PATENT'OFFIQE NICK SIMOS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA KIT BOX Application filed March 20, 1928. Serial No, 263,115.
My invention relates to kit boxes in which articles are packed, such as toilet cases, fishermens bait boxes, emergency medical kits, and the like.
An object of the invention is to provide a case or kit box of this character in which a large assortment of articles may be packed and which will allow instant access to any one of the articles without disturbing the others.
I have illustrated my invention as adapted for use as a kit for mens toilet accessories.
The invention consists in a box with a hinged cover both of which are recessed, the cover having article holding members secured therein and the box proper a yieldingly supported article carrier adapted to be retracted within the box under pressure of the article holding members in the cover when the cover is closed down upon the box.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a toilet case containing toilet articles and made in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section in the plane of line 22 on Figure 1, one of the leaves being swung outwardly and the toilet articles omitted, with the exception of a mirror.
Figure 3 is an enlarged cross-section on line 33 on Figure 1 but showing two of the leaves swung outwardly, all of the toilet articles except a razor being omitted.
Figure 4 is an enlarged cross-section taken in the plane of line 4-4 on Figure 1,
r the case being closed and the toilet articles omitted. Referring now more in detail to the drawings, the toilet case or kit box has a boxshaped body part 5 to which a box-shaped lid 6 is secured by a hinge 7 adapted to hold it in an inclined position, as shown in Figures l and 3. A tray 8, seated in the body part and slidable perpendicularly thereto, rests upon two or more leaf springs 9 which are preferably secured at their centers to the bottom of the tray and whose lower ends rest upon the bottom of the body part. In their extended positions, the springs support the tray just below the top of the body part so that its contents are readily accessible.
Braces 10 extend transversely of and stiffen the body part, limit theupward movement of the tray, and serveas separators for receptacles 11 resting upon the tray and adapted to contain different articles. In Figure 1, these receptacles are shown as containing shaving soap, a tooth brush, tooth paste, and a shaving brush.
In the left front corner of the body part, a partition 12 forms a compartment for a razorblade container 13' which rests upon the tray. A pair of partitions 14 extend from partition 12 to the rear side of the body part and form a compartment for a safety razor 15 which rests upon a support 16 secured to the tray. A member 17. resting upon the traybetween partitions 14, serves as a support for the handle of the razor and is preferably provided with an offset portion 18 against which'the razor may abut for holding it against movement transversely of the body part. v
A leaf 19, hinged tothe rear side of the lid,is provided with a bottom shelf 20 and back flange 21, so as to form a compartment in which articles of considerable length may be stored, and witha pair of clips 22 on its outside face for holding a comb or other elongated article. A finger grip 23 is secured to leaf 19 so that it may be swung'outwardly against the action. of ac oiled spring 24 which yieldingly holds flange 21 against the top of the lid. I Aboveleaf' 19, a leaf 25 is hinged to the lid and provided with a clip 26 on its rear side, for holding a mirror 27, and a clip 28 on its front side for holding a shoe horn 29. A shallow container 30 is removably secured to the front of leaf 25 by having its flanges slidable, behind a pair of guides 31 fixed to the leaf. -A flange 32, formed on each edge of leaf 25, is yieldingly held incontact with the top of the lid by one or more coiled springs 33, each of which are positioned between one of the flanges 32 and a flange 34 so that mirror 27 may not come in contact with the spring. A finger grip 35 is provided on leaf 25 so that it may be swung outwardly in order to removev mirror 27.
7 VA leaf 36is hinged to the other end of the lid and consists of a flat part 37, having loops or pockets 38 upon each of its sides for accommodating a variety of small articles, as shown in Figure 1, and spring clips 39 and 40 by which other small articles may be carried. A flange 41 is formed along the one edge of flat part 37 and a flange 42 along its other edge. Clip 39 is secured to flange 42 and clip 40 to clip 39. One or more coiled springs 43 yieldingly hold the edges of flanges 41 and 42 and clips 39 and 40 against the top of the lid and leaf 36 may be swung outwardly by means of a finger grip 44 on fiat part 37.
When closing the lid, the leaves or articles thereon will engage the tops of receptacles 11 and 17 and force tray 8 downwardly against the action of springs 9 into the position shown in Figure 4. Any suitable means may be provided for securing the lid in closed position, ordinaryhooks 45 and eyes 46 being shown. 3
When it is desired to use any of the articles in the kit, the lid is swung back and springs 9 will raise tray 8 so that any article thereon is readily accessible by lifting the front end of the receptacle, or by merely removing articles which are in the open, such as safety razor 15, or the brush 47. The articles disposed in the lid may be readily removed ously explained.
It will be understood that various changes and modifications of the device as described above may be resorted to within the scope of the invention as'hereinbefore set forth and as measured by the appended claims.
I claim v 1. A kit box including a recessed body part open at one side, article supporting means in the body part, a recessed lid for the open side, means for moving the supporting means toward the open side when the lid is opened, and article supports within the lid causing retraction of the supporting means within the body when the lid is closed.
2. A kit box including a body part, a lid, springs in the body part, a tray resting on the springs and protruding above the top of the box when the box is open and adapted to be depressed when the cover is closed, and article carrying means within the lid positioned for depressing the said tray when the lid is closed.
3. A kit box including a body part, a lid, a tray in the body part, bent leaf springs having their centers secured to the bottom of the tray and their ends resting on the bottom of the body part for projecting the tray from the upper end. of the box, article carrying leaves on said lid positioned to depress the tray into the box when the lid is closed, and means for securing the lid in closed position.
4. A kit box including a body part, springs in the body part, a tray resting on the springs, receptacles on the tray, a lid hinged to the body part, article receiving devices hinged to the lid and adapted to abut the receptacles and depress the tray when the lid is closed, and means for securing the cover in closed position.
5. A knit box including a body part, springs in the body part, a tray resting on the springs, receptacles on the tray, a lid hinged to the body part, leaves hinged to the lid, springs for holding the leaves in alignment with the lid, means on each side of the leaves for securing articles thereto, some of said means abutting the receptacles and depressing the tray when the lid is closed, and means for securing the lid in closed position.
6. A kit box including a body part having an open face, a tray seated in the body part and slidahle perpendicularly thereto, springs normally pressing the tray outwardly from the body part, article receptacles fitted in the tray, partitions in the tray forming compartments adapted to receive articles, a boxshaped lid hinged to the body part, leaves hinged to the lid having receptacles and provided with. clips for holding articles, and springs normally holding a side of the leaves in engagement with the top of the tray.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to'this specification. NICK SIMOS.
