Description

July 1o, 1934. F N, Evws 1,966,351
BEAUTY BOX Filed Aug. 19, 1935 Patented July 10, 1934 UNITED ,STATE-S PATENT ori-ics 4 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in beauty boxes and more especially to a tted box especially adapted for overnight travel.
The primary object of the invention is to prop 51 vide a container with bottles or the like so combined with the structure of the box that when the latter is opened said bottles will stand in an upright position but when closed will lie in a plane at right angles to said upright position with m their corks abutting against a wall of the box to prevent leakage.
With the foregoing objects outlined and with other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the 1:5 novel features hereinafter described in detail, il-
lustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the beauty box j, with the cover or lid in open position.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but with the cover in closed position.
Referring to the drawing, 4 designates the body of the box and 5 the cover of the same, the rear walls of which are pivotally connected together by any suitable form of hinges 6.
A partition 7 of less height than the body of the box is vertically positioned within the latter 30. and extends lengthwise thereof. This partition may be fixed to the bottom or opposite ends of the box by any suitable means.
A relatively deep tray of substantially the same height as the partition has its iront wall hingedly connected to the upper edge of the partition as shown at 9 and this tray is preferably lined with some suitable yielding or resilient textile material 10 so as to frictionally engage receptacles or bottles l1 having closures or stoppers 12. Obvi- 4m ously these bottles may contain any desired lotions or cosmetics.
A rigid arm 13 is iixed to one end of the tray and extends upwardly therefrom when the box is in open position, and the outer end of this arm 45, is pivotally connected at 14 to one end of a rigid link 15 which has its other end pivotally connected at 16 to one side of the cover. Due to this arrangement, when the cover is open the bottles and tray will be brought into a position perpen- 50, dicular to the bottom of the box. On the other hand when the cover is closed, the ends of the Stoppers 12 will be brought into abutting relation with the inner surface of the front wall 1'7 of the box, owing to the fact that the length of vu each bottle with its stopper is equal to the dis- (Cl. 20G-44) tance between the inner surface of the wall 17 and the bottom 18 of the tray when the tray is in a position parallel to the bottom 17 of the box.
The cover of the box may be provided with a mirror 20 and with loops 21 to hold a comb or CD the like and of course, the interior of the body of the box not occupied by the bottles and tray may be used for the storage of any suitable articles. The finished box may be covered with leather and lined with washable silk and may have a conven- 05? tional handle 22 and a lock 23.
While I have disclosed what I now consider to be a preferred embodiment of the invention in such manner that the same may be readily understood by those skilled in the art, I am aware that changes may be made in the details disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention as expressed in the claims.
What I claim and desire to-secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A beauty box comprising a body member having front and rear walls, a cover hinged to the rear wall, a rigid partition member vertically arranged within the body member between the front and rear walls, a tray hingedly connected to one of said members and swingable about an axis extending along the upper edge of the partition member, and means pivotally connecting the tray to the cover for holding the tray in a horizontal position when the cover is closed and for moving the tray into an upright position when the cover is opened.
2. A beauty box comprising a body member having front and rear walls, a cover hinged to the rear wall, a rigid partition member vertically arranged within the body member between the front and rear walls, a tray hingedly connected to one of said members and swingable about an axis extending along the upper edge of the partition member, and means pivotally connecting the tray to the cover for holding the tray in a horizontal position when the cover is closed and for moving the tray into an upright position when the cover is opened, the last mentioned means including an arm projecting from 10'0- the open end of the tray, and a link pivotally connecting the arm to the cover.
3. A beauty box comprising a body member having front and rear walls, a cover hinged to the rear wall, a rigid partition member verti- 105il cally arranged within the body member between the front and rear Walls, a tray hingedly connected to one of said members and swingable about an axis extending along the upper edge of the partition member, and means pivotally 1.1.0?
connecting the tray to the cover for holding the tray in a horizontal position when the cover is closed and for moving the tray into an upright position when the cover is opened, the last mentioned means including an arm xedly secured to one end of the tray and projecting from the open end of the tray, and a link pivotally connecting the arm to the cover.
4. A beauty box comprising a body member having front and rear Walls, a cover hinged to the rear Wall, a rigid partition member vertically arranged Within the body member between the front and rear Walls, a tray hingedly connected to one of said members and swingable about an vthe cover is opened, and bottles in the tray having Stoppers, each bottle with its stopper being of the same length as the distance between the front wall and the bottom of the tray when the latter is in horizontal position, whereby said Stoppers abut against the front Wall of the body member When the cover is closed.
