Patented Apr. 15, 1930 i i i UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE EMIL J. ZOLLER, F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK TIN OONTAINEB WITH FRICTION TOP AND HINGE COVER Application filed February 14, 1927. Serial No. 168,113.
The invention relates to a receptacle of the the line 3-3 of Figure 1 looking in the direcsafety type, and more especially to mailing tion of the arrow. cans for dye stuff or coloring matter. This lid or cover 11 is swung from open position, partial opening thereof being shown by dotted lines in Figure 1, of the drawing, to completed closed position as shown by full lines in Figure 1, of said drawing. In this manner, the friction cap 9 will be concealed by the lid or cover 11 when closed. The marginal flanges 12 frictionally bind exteriorly upon the downwardly extending flange of the top 7 of the body of the can A so that such outer lid or cover 11 will be maintained in closed position or frictionally held closed.
The marginal flanges of the cover or lid 11 will possess a certain inherent resiliency so as to rip the exterior surfaces of the downwarfly extending flange of the top 7 of the body of the can A to hold the cover or lid in closed position.
It will be clearly apparent that the can is filled through the center opening in the top section when the friction cap is removed and thereafter the same is inserted in the opening and pressed tightly therein to seal the said opening, whereupon the lid or cover 11 is swung to closed position to conceal the friction cap. The can is primarily intended for containing dye stuff or coloring matter and such can is adapted particularly for mailing purposes.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and manner of use of the can will be clearl understood and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is 1. In a rece tacle of that ty e includin a body portion iiaving a flange top rovi ed with a removable closure, the flanged portion of the top being secured to the outer face of the side of'the body portion, the combination of a flanged lid for enclosing said top and closure, the flanged portion of said lid frictionall en aging with the outer face of and dependingielow the flanged portion of said top, a bin e member secured to the outer face of the si e of said body portion below said flanged portions, and means for pivotally connecting the bottom of the flanged portion of said lid to the top of said hinge member.
2. In a receptacle of that type including a polygonal shaped body portion having a anged to provided with a removable closure, the anged portion of said top being secured to the outer face of the walls of said body portion, the combination of a flanged lid, for enclosing said top and closure, the flanged portion of said lid frictionally enagmg with the 'outer face of and de endmg below the flanged portion of sai top,
hereto.
