Another object of the invention is the provision of such a container withmeans ior delivering two distinct articles at the same .time from within the container, th delivery mechanism being actuated automaticallyluponlifting of ,the
cover of the box.
The above andother objects .will become apparent in the description below, wherein characters of reference reierto like-numbered parts in the accompanying drawing. It is to be noted that the drawing is intended to serve the purpose of illustration only, and it is neither desired nor intended that the invention be necessarily limited to the exact details of construction shown, excepting insofar as they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
Referring briefly to the drawing,
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the box with the cover in open position, with parts broken away to expose the interior.
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, but showing the cover in closed position.
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4 but showing the cover in closed position.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral ll] indicates the box or container, which is provided with the bottom H, front and rear walls l2 and I3, respectively, end-walls l4 and I5, and the cover [6 which is hinged to the rear wall l3. Near the end walls M and IE but spaced therefrom and parallel thereto, a pair of support walls [1 are rigidly mounted within the box and are provided with aligned vertical slots [8. Intermediate the width of the box, a partition I9 is mounted parallel with the end walls [4 and I5, and is Provided with a vertical slot which is also in alignment with the slots l8 but extends from the bottom of the partition 19 to the yoke 20a near the top of the partition. The partition 19 divides the box into two compartments 2| and 22.
Pivotally secured at 23 to the cover 16 are links 24 which hang down into the spaces between the walls l2 and I5 and their respective support walls ject;through;,randeare iverticallyislidable in. the

is cut out of the :uppe edga'aoi the member-256 intermediater'itsilength In each compartmen longitudinal slot 29. whose opposed walls are parallel and spaced from each other at a distance slightly greater than the thickness of the member 26. The upper edge 30 of the member 26 is arcuately dished out, as shown. It is apparent that the slot 29 serves as a guide 'to keep the member 26 in vertical positions no matter what the elevation of the same may be. The walls 28 in each compartment 2| and 22 separate these compartments again into an upper compartment or trough 3|, above the walls 28, and the space below these walls, to which no reference numeral need be given since that space is not utilized excepting to provide room for the descent of the member 26.
A loose panel 32, substantially rectangular in outline, is laid horizontally on top of the walls I! and I9 and is supported thereby with its upper surface flush with" the upper edges of the end walls I4 and IS. The rear, end corners of this panel are cut away to provide room for the passage of the links 24, as shown at 34, and a thumb nail groove 35 is provided in the upper surface thereof so that it may be more readily lifted out of the box. A pair of aligned slots 33 are cut through the panel so that when it is in position as -shown thse slots lie directly over the two dished out upper edge (30) portions of the member 26.
In use, the panel 32 is first removed and cigarettes are placed in the two troughs 3|, and the panel 32 replaced. Owing to the slope of the walls 28, the cigarettes will tend to roll toward the slot i9. When the cover I6 is closed, the member 26 will have moved down to the position shown in Fig. 5, and since the groove 30 is of sufiicient width to seat but a single cigarette at a time, one cigarette will be raised thereon, through the linkaand .22, a pair of walls 28 are securedto'the front-and rear-walls oi the box,=.;near "the -upper;edgesgthereof, and vslope downward ltowardgjeachsother, the lower .edges. thereof being separated from each other by a age described, each time the cover is lifted. Since there are two grooves 30, separated by the slot 21, one in each trough 3|, a cigarette will thus be delivered on each groove 30. If desired, one compartment 3| might be provided with matches instead of cigarettes or cigars.
Limit stops to the upward movement of the member 26 so that the grooves 30 will rise just high enough "to permit the, cigarettesv therein ,to.
gagement of the pins 25 with the upper edges of the slots l'8. The same limit stops serve to prevent swinging back of the cover IE to an extreme degree.
Obviously, modifications in form and structure may be made without departing fromthe spirit and scope of the invention.
Iclaim: 1. A box comprising front, back, and endwalls having a. transverse partition intermediate'its edges of said sloping walls having a slot therebetween, the walls of said last-named slot being parallel and vertical and having said member vertically slidably mounted therein in upright position, the upper edge of said member having a transverse slot therethrough dividing said edge into two sections, the upper edge of each of said sections being arcuately dished out, a loose horizontal panel-supported on the upper edges of said support walls and partition and having spaced aligned slots directly above and of substantially the-same dimensions as said sections, said compartments above said sloping walls being adapted a 'to have cigarettes or other articles mounted width, support walls in the box near ithe end walls thereof, said support walls having vertical slots therein, a cover'hingedto said back wall. and having links pivotally: depending therefrom,
pins on the ends of said links passing .slidably through said slots, said'partition having a -ver tical slot therethrough extending from the lower edge thereof to a point near' the upper edge therein, said links when said cover is closed holding said member with said sections thereof horizontally positioned in said sloping wall slots, lifting of said cover to substantially upright position causing said links to raise said member to position said sections to a position substantially flush with said panel slots, the width of said dished-out sections being approximately equal to the thickness of a cigarette so that but one cigarette will be seated on each section when said thereof and in alignment'withsaid first-named" lots, an elongated 'member passing-through said partition slot and -havin'g'-said pins registerin pivotally in the end edges thereof, said elongated member being substantially rectangular, said partition dividing sa idbox into two compartments, walls secured to th front and back walls of said box in each of said compartmnts and sloping downward toward each other, the lower
