The present invention relates to a cigarette case and has for its prime object to provide a structure having an" individual cigarette ejector mechanism capable of easy and con- 5 venient operation. v

Another very important object of the invention resides inthe provision of a cigarette case having a hinged cover and an ejector mechanism which is sprung to a normally in- Ward position and has means cooperable with the hinged lid to hold said lid locked when the ejector mechanism is in its normal position.- A still further very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a combination of cooperant instrumental'ities which produce an exceedingly simple construction which is inexpensive to manufacture,strong and durable, thoroughly 'efiicien't andreliable in use and operation, and'other wise well adapted to'the purpose for which it is designed. T

With the above and numerous other objects in 'viewas will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement ofparts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed; I

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the letter B denotes a box like structure comprising a bottom 5, side walls 6 and an end wall 7 rising therefrom at the side and end edges thereof respectively; The side walls 6 extend beyond the end of the bottom 5 remote from the end wall 7 and taper outwardly to. form wing extensions denoted specificallybythe'numeral 6; From the edge of the bottom 5 adjacent the wing extension 6 there extends two upwardly inclined fingers 8 terminating between the wing extensions 6. An inclined partition 9 is disposed between. the sides 6 and their extensions 6. This partition 9 inclines upwardly from an intermediate transverse line of the top surface of the bottom 5 and outwardly to terminate between the wing extensions 6 and beyond the adjacent end edges of the bottom 5. A lid 10 is hingedly mounted as at 11 ,on the upper edgeof the end wall 7 to swing over the open top of the box like structure B. This lid 10 is provided with perpendicular longitudinal side flanges 12 to:overhang thelside wall 6 when the lid is in a closed position, The free end of the lid 7 has an outwardly curved portion 14 to provide acigarette receiving compartment. This portion 14 is located immediately above the upperedge of the inclined partition 9 when the lid is in a closed position. A tongue 15 projects outwardly from the free edge of the lid preferably at the center of said edge.

A plate 16 is slidable along thebottom surface of the partition 9 between said portion and the upper extremities of the fingers 8 which extremities are curved to minimize friction. This plate 16 at its outer edge merges into a trough like extension .17 which is adapted to receive the cigarette to be ejected as will be more apparentas the description proceeds. The free edge of the trough like extension 17 is formed with a keeper opening 18 for receiving the tongue 15. One or more springs 19 are anchored as at 20 in relation to the box like structure B and as at 21 to the inner edge of the plate 16 for normally holding the plate and its trough like extension in a position shown in Figure 4 that with the keeper opening 18 surrounding the tongue 15 thus preventing the opening of the lid 10.

From a consideration of the above detailed description taken in connection with the drawing, it will be seen that when the ejector element comprising the plate 16 and the trough like extension 17 is pulled outwardly against the'tension of the springs 19 from the box likestructure B, the lid 10 may be raised and the box like structure filled with cigarettes extending transversely thereof. By releasing the ejector element after closing the lid it will be seen that the lid is locked against accidental opening. In order to eject a cigarette the box like structure B is inclined downwardly toward the delivery end thereof which permits one cigarette only to be deposited in the trough like extension 17, while another cigarette is disposed in the compartment formed by the portion lat of the lid. The operator may then pull outwardly upon the trough like extension and slide the cigarette therein out one end thereof it being noted that the plate 16 will move under the cigarette in the compartment formed by the portion 14 so that only one cigarette may be ejected at a time. Immediately upon the return of the ejector element by the springs the cigarette in the compartment of the portion 14 falls in the trough like extension 17 and at the same time the lid is locked against opening.

It will be understood, therefore, that the lid which affords access to all of the cigarettes as a functional cooperant relationship with the ejector element that permits the removing of cigarettes from the casing one at a time. It will further be seen that these cooperant instrumentalities are realized in an exceedingly simplest-ructure that maybe manufactured at a low cost and yet be made strong and durable and thoroughly efficient and reliable.

It is'thought that the construction, utility, operation, and advantages of the invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof. The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail merely by Way of example since in actualpractice it attains the features of advantageenumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Havin thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. A cigarette case of the class described comprising a box like structure, a hinged lid therefor having a projection at its free end,

an ejector element slidably mounted in the box like structure, means associated with the element normally holding the same inwardly of the box like structure and permitting the same to be moved manually therefrom, said element having a keeper structure surrounding the projection when the member is disposed inwardly of the box like structure for thus locking the lid in a closed position.

2. A cigarette case of the class described comprising a box like structure formed with a bottom, and a pair of side walls and a back end wall rising from the side and back edges respectively thereof, said side walls being extended beyond the front end edge of the bottom, a lid hingedly mounted at one end edge on the upper edge of the rear wall andhaving its free edge, when closed, disposed in proximity to the extended ends of the side walls, fingers extending upwardly and outwardly from the frontedge of the'bo'ttom, a partition between the side walls inclining upwardly from an intermediate transverse line of the bottom over beyond the front edge of the bottom to terminate between the end extensions of the side walls, a plate slidable between the fingers and the partitions, spring means associated with the plate holding the same inwardly, a trough likeextension on the plate having a keeper opening, and a tongue projecting from the free edge of the lid to be received in the keeper opening 3. A cigarette case of the class described comprising a box like structure formed'with a bottom, and a pair of side walls and a back end wall rising from the side and back edges respectively thereof, said side walls being extended beyond the front end edge of the bottom, a lidhingedly mountedat one end edge on the upper edge of the rear wall-andhaving its free edge, when closed, 'disposed'in proximity to the extended ends of the side walls, fingers extending upwardly and outwardly from the front edge of the bottom, a partition between the side walls inclining'up'wardly from an intermediate transverse line ofthe bottomover beyond the front edge of thejbottom to terminate between the end extensions of the side walls, a plate slidable between the fingers and the partitions, spring means associated with the plate hol'dingthe same inwardly, a trough like extension on the plate having a keeper opening, and a tongue projecting from the free edge of the lid to be received in the keeper opening, said lid being provided with an outwardly curved transversely extending portion adjacent its free end.

4. A cigarette case of the class described comprising a box like structure formed with a bottom, and a pair of side walls and a back end wall rising from the side and back edges respectively thereof, said side walls being extended beyond the front end edge of the bottom, a lid hingedly mounted at one end edge on the upper edge of the rear wall and between the fingers and the partitions, spring means associated with the plate holding the same inwardly, a trough like extension on the plate having a keeper opening, and a tongue projecting from thefree edge of the lid to be received in the keeper opening, said lid being provided with an outwardly curved transversely extending portion adjacent its free end, said lid having side flanges for overlapping the side walls when closed and for closing the ends of the compartment formed by the curved portion of the lid.
