F. L G. STRAUBEL FILING CABINET OR FILE BOX Filed Sept. 8, 1931 2 Sheets-Shee 2 T 1 a 25 Z 20 Z 2i I0 12. l5 5 5 :2 lb 3'1 u,
FREDERICK L. G. STRAUBELDF GREEN BAY, VIISCONSI'N FILING CABINETGB FILE BOX Application filcd september The invention relates to filing cabinets or -ill boxes of the kind with hinged lift top coyers whereby the contents may be exposed for examination or access thereto.
5 Furthermore the invention contemplates means in connection with the hinged'cover whereby the rear end of an inner tiling re ceptacle or compartment is raised sufficiently to improve upon the vision of the user in looking for the desired indexes or for the examination of the papers tiled therein.
For convenient and quick access to its contents it is merely necessary to raise the cover when automatically the rear end of the inner filing receptacle is raised by means of the connections hereinafter described.
By means of levers or links the inner tiling receptacle also moved forward to actuate a hinged front, tilting it outward for the purpose of more, convenient access by the spreading of the contents at the top. The closing of the cover will return the inner tiling recep-- tacle to its normal position as also the hinged front. i With this object in view my invention con sists in construction substantially as herein described and claimed and as set out in the accompanying drawings of Which I Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through the center of the tile or cabinet.
Figure 2 is a cross-section of the cabinet or file box viewed from the rear.
Fig e 3 is a similar View to that of Figure 1 but with the tile open and shown with tiling matter.
In the drawings, 1 is the cover and *2 the sides of the outside casing. 3 is the hinged front, the back of the casing and 5 its bottom. 6 represents the inner filing receptacle or compartment. 1 to 6 constitute the major portions of the cabinet or file box which may be subject to a variety of designs.
As devices for the hinging for the cover 1, I use the links 7 and 8, one of each on each side, whereby the cover drops back when opened, over the back 4 of the casing with the links resting thereon The links 9 are pivotally connected at their lower ends, to therear end of the inner filing receptacle at 50 10-and at their upper ends to the levers 7 at B, 1931. Serial No. 581,650.
11. When the. cover is open the links 9 should be approximately parallel with the links '1' to prevent the closing of the cover by the weight suspended from it. Adjustment can be made by a change in the formation of the links 8 to cause the cover 1 to drop farther back.
The links 12 pivotally connected to the lower part of the sides 2 at 13 and their upper ends to the inner tiling receptacle (3 at 1% in the position shown, cause the latter to move forward a given distance when the cover 1 is raised or opened which, by means of the links or lovers 7, S and 9 will raisethe rear end of the inner 1" g rcc-ept.=cle I and simultaneously by means of the links 12 and the hinges 15 and 16 attached to the front 3, tilt the latter outward. The tilting front 3 is hinged to the bottom of the inner tiling receptacle 6 at 15 and at its lower extremity to the bottom 5 of the casing at 16. fhe 79 upper hinges 15 being sufficiently elevated iove the lower ones to cause the front to t1 t oinward by he forward movement of the inner tiling receptacle 8 when the cover 1 is opened as shown by the dotted lines in Figure 1 and as viewed in Figure 3. 17 are wings attach-ad to the tilting front 3 as an enclosure for the. open side spaces when the tile is open and furthermore act stops for the tilting front when the projections 18 so come in contact with the pins 19. 20, 21 and 22 represent rcent'orccment plates and 23 a bottom rest for the inner filing receptacle when in a normal position. 24 is the usual, form of center channel, longitudinal with 5 the drawer, and to which various kinds of sliding followers may be titted, most suitably in this case, one with blade 25 hinged to a base at 28 with side stops 26 to regulate any desired incline as in Figures 2 and 3.
Having :nus described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is' 1. A filing cabinet or file box comprising anouter casing of sides, back and bottom, a tilting front member, an inner filing receptac'le, a cover, pivoted means for attaching the cover to the outer casing for swinging movement and means in connection therewith whereby the inner filing receptacle is raised 100 in claim wing at its rear end by the opening of the cover, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A filing cabinet or file box comprising an outer casing of sides, back and bottom, an inner filing receptacle, & tilting front member pivotall attached at its lower part, to the bottom 0 the inner filing receptacle and at its bottom to the bottom of the outer casing, a cover, pivoted means for attaching the cover to the outer casing for swinging movement and means in connection therewith whereby the inner filing receptacle is raised at its rear end by the opening of the cover, for the purpose described.
3. A filing cabinet or file box comprising an outer casing of sides, back and bottom, an inner filing receptacle, a tilting front member pivotally attached at its lower part to the bottom of the inner filing receptacle and at its bottom to the bottom of the outer casing, a cover, pivoted means for attaching the cover o the outer casing for swinging movement and means in connection therewith and otherwise provided, whereby the inner filing receptacle is raised at its rear end with a forward movement to actuate the tilting front, by the opening of the cover, substantially as described.
4. A filing cabinet or file box as described side members attached to the tilting front member with stops, by which the Ontr; tilting of the front member is limited to the required incline as and for the purpose described.
FREDERICK L. G. STRAUBEL.
