The back wall 4| has thereon a forwardly declining plate 42 which serves to convey away from the back wall 4| any waste or trash placed in the drawer.
The drawer 38 further comprises an abbreviated bottom wall 43 extending rearwardly a short distance from the front wall 38 and terminating in a rear free edge 44. The bottom wall 43 is only about one-third of the length of the drawer 38. On the rear free edge 44 is secured a leaf 45 of a hinge 46 having a hinge pin 47 at or above the top of the bottom wall 43, and another hinge leaf 4'8 pivoted on the hinge pin. The hinge 43 may be either two hinge leaves, one on each side or one very long hinge leaf of the full width of the panel.
The hinge 45 serves as a hinge mounting for the tiltable dumping panel 58. The panel 55 is slightly narrower than the distance between the drawer side walls 40, 48 and is of a length, approximating two-thirds of the length of the drawer 38, such that in the closed horizontal position of the panel, its forward end 5| will be close to or engaged with the front wall 39 of the drawer and the rear end 52 of the panel 58 will be close to and forwardly spaced from the depressed end 53 of the declining back wall plate. The hinge leaf 48 is secured to the under side of the tilting panel 58 at a point forwardly of the middle or center of gravity of the panel 58, so that the panel 50 will tilt rearwardly and downwardly whenever free to do so. At the opposite sides of the panel 58 near its rear end 52 there are secured to the under side of the panel 58, elevating or levelling cams 54, similar to but reversed with respect to the earns 35. also as weights for helping the downward gravitational swing of the panel.
It will be apparent from the foregoing and the drawings that in the inward or closed position of the drawer 38, the cams 54 are unsupported by the cams 35 or by the guides 33, so that the drawer 38 necessarily occupies a declining dumping position, as shown in Figures 5 and 6. As the drawer 38 is pulled open from a closed position, the tilting panel cams 54 ride up on the guide cams 35 so that the panel 50 is elevated to horizontal position, with its forward part resting upon the drawer bottom 43 and with its cams 54 resting upon the guides 33, as shown in Figures 3 and l. The drawer 38 being in open position, and trash or waste having been deposited in the drawer, disposal of the waste or trash into the receptacle 26 is accomplished simply by pushing in the drawer 38 to its closed position, since this operation produces downward tilting of the panel so that its burden or waste or trash slides thereon gravitationally into the receptacle 26. The cams 54, in units constructed of metal, can be roller bearings, and the guides 33 can be bearings or bearing channels, which add to the ease of operation.
It will be observed that the simple rectangular form of the cabinet 9 and the arrangement and manner of operation of the drawer 38 and of the receptacle 26 permits of ready incorporation of the device into kitchen, ofiice, and workshop cabinet structures, wherein the device is as inconspicuous as other units of such structures.
What is claimed is:
1. In a disposal device, a cabinet having spaced side walls and a front wall and a bottom wall extending between the side walls at a level below the upper ends of the side walls and front wall, said front wall being formed with a drawer open- The cams 54 act.v
4 ing spaced upwardly from said bottom wall, a pair of horizontal guides mounted on the inner sides of the cabinet side walls having upper surfaces on a level with the lower side of the drawer opening, said guides having cam portions projecting laterally inwardly from said side walls, said cam portions having rear ends forwardly spaced from the cabinet back wall, said rear ends having rearwardly and downwardly declining cam surfaces, a drawer movable through said drawer opening on said guides from a pushed-in closed position to a pulled-out open position relative to the cabinet, said drawer having an abbreviated bottom wall extending rearwardly from the front end of the drawer, said abbreviated bottom wall having a free rear end spaced forwardly from the rear end of the drawer, a dumping panel, pivot means pivoting the panel at a point intermediate its ends on the free rear end of the abbreviated bottom wall with the dumping panel extending forwardly and rearwardly relative to said free rear end, the pivotal axis of said pivot means being horizontal and extending crosswise of the drawer and being positioned forwardly of the center of gravity of the dumping panel so that the dumping panel is forced by gravity to swing downwardly and rearwardly when free to do so, and cam portions on the under side of said dumping panel at the rear end thereof having upwardly and forwardly inclined cam surfaces arranged to ride up on the cam surfaces of the guide cam portions as the drawer is moved from a closed position to an open position whereby the dumping panel is tilted upwardly to a horizontal position in which its cam portions rest upon said horizontal guides and the drawer is conditioned to receive waste, subsequent inward pushing of the drawer to closed position serving to cause the dumping panel cam portions to disengage from the guide cam portions and enable the dumping panel to pivot gravitationally to a rearwardly declining position wherein the Waste slides gravitationally from the dumping panel into a receptacle on the cabinet bottom wall.
2. In a disposal device, a cabinet having spaced side walls and a front wall and a bottom wall extending between the side walls at a level below the upper ends of the side walls and front wall, said front wall being formed with a drawer opening spaced upwardly from said bottom wall, a pair of horizontal guides mounted on the inner sides of the cabinet side walls having upper surfaces on a level with the lower side of the drawer opening, said guides having cam portions projecting laterally inwardly from said side walls, said cam portions having rear ends forwardly spaced from the cabinet back wall, said rear ends having rearwardly and downwardly declining cam surfaces, a drawer movable through said drawer opening on said guides from a pushed-in closed position to a pulled-out open position relative to the cabinet, said drawer having an abbreviated bottom wall extending rearwardly from the front end of the drawer, said abbreviated bottom wall having a free rear end spaced forwardly from the rear end of the drawer, a dumping panel, pivot means pivoting the panel at a point intermediate its ends on the free rear end of the abbreviated bottom Wall with the dumping panel extending forwardly and rearwardly relative to said free rear end, the pivotal axis of said pivot means being horizontal and extending crosswise of the drawer and being positioned forwardly of the center of gravity of the dumping panel so that the dumping panel is forced by gravity to swing downwardly and rearwardly when free so do so, and cam portions on the under side of said dumping panel at the rear end thereof having upwardly and forwardly inclined cam surfaces arranged to ride up on the cam surfaces of the guide cam portions as the drawer is moved from a closed position to an open position whereby the dumping panel is tilted upwardly to a horizontal position in which its cam portions rest upon said horizontal guides and the drawer is conditioned to receive waste, subsequent inward pushing of the drawer to closed position serving to cause the dumping panel cam portions to disengage from the guide cam portions and 15 1,303,552
enable the dumping panel to pivot gravitationally to a rearwardly declining position wherein the waste slides gravitationally from the dumping panel into a receptacle on the cabinet bottom wall, said drawer having a rear wall, and a forwardly declining plate on said rear wall serving to move waste forwardly away from the drawer rear wall onto the dumping panel.
