To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL RAPoronT, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Display- Cases, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a folding display case that may be folded or collapsed into a relatively small compass, which will be convenient to the user when opening the same, and which will remain in the extended condition without danger of the parts accidently folding together.
The invention comprises novel details of improvement and combinations of parts that will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein,
Figure l is a perspective view of a folding display case embodying my invention; Fig. 9. is a section on the line 2, 2, in Fig. l; Fig. 3 is a sectional view illustrating the front portion of the case folded; Fig. et is a section on the line 4L, 4l, in Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows; Fig. 5 is a partly broken rear view showing one of the sides folded; Fig. 6 is a detail section on the line G, 6, in Fig. 5, and Fig. 7 is a similar view, the top partly lowered.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
The miuneral 1 indicates a suitable frame open at front and back, and within said frame foldable sides 3 are hinged by suitable hinges 4 shown provided with springs 5, tending normally to spread sides 3 outwardly.
At 5 is a front for the case or boX, and a top G is hinged, as at 7, to the upper edge of front 5, and a bottom S is hinged at 9 to the lower edge of front 5. The inner edges of top 6 and bottom 7 are movably con nected with frame l so as to fold respectively downwardly and upwardly between the frame and front 5. For this purpose I have shown the inner edge of top 6 provided with pins l0 adapted to travel up and down in vertical slots or grooves lEL in the inner wall of the vertical sides of frame l, and the inner edge of bottom 8 is provided with pins 11 adapted to slide vertically in the slots or grooves la. Slots or grooves l may readily be formed in frame l by folding the latter in suitable shape from sheet metal, or in other suitable manner. When the case or box is to be collapsed, the sides 3 are folded inwardly within the frame, the inner edges of the top and bottom are respectively low` ered and raised so that their respective pins l0, l1 slide through the slots or grooves l, and the front 5 is pushed inwardly toward the frame, whereby the parts are folded, as in Fig. 3. The pins 10 and 1l thus" serve as means for connecting the top and lbottom movably with the frame to permit .folding of the top and bottom and to retain the top and bottom extended when the front'5 is moved outwardly.
Vhile the top G may rest upon the upper edges of the sides 3 when the latter are eX- panded, I have shown means for causing the pin 10 to engage the sides l. For this purpose the sides at their upper corners are provided with openings lb at the upper ends of slots or grooves ln to receive'the pins I0 and the latter are slidably mounted in a guideway 14 in the inner edge of top 6, the pins 10 having linger pieces l0, and a spring or springs 1G bearing upon said finger pieces serving normally to move pins l() outwardly into engagement with openings lb. The arrangement is such that when the top is to be lowered and folded, the finger pieces 10u are grasped and drawn together to withdraw pins l0 from the openings l", and then said pins may slide down the grooves l, and when the top is raised so that pins l() aline with openings l said pins will be pushed by spring 16 outwardly into said openings and the top will thereby be retained in position upon frame 1. To aid in opening the top 6 I have shown springs 17 located in slots or grooves l, which springs may be provided with heads 1S in line with the pins 10. When the top is lowered the pins 10 will push the springs 17 downwardly, but when the case is to be opened front 6 may be pushed outwardly and thereupon springs 17 will push pins l0 and top G upwardly, causing pins 10 to slide through the slots or grooves l, and pins l1 will slide down through said slots or grooves, the sides 3 then opening outwardly. Stops 5 on the sides of front 5 to be engaged by the sides 3 limit the opening of the sides, and the forward edges of the sides then lie behind front 5 whereby the parts are all maintained in the opened position.
Frame 1 is shown provided with a suitable door 19 at the back, shown hinged to the frame at 20 and held closed by a suitable latch or catch device 21.
The sides, top and front may be formed of channel metal provided with glass panels to permit inspection of the contents of the display case, which parts may be made in any usual or well known manner in this ltop and bottom movably connected to the front, and a pin and slot connection between the frame and the top, movably connecting them together to permit lthe top to be folded `between the frame and front, and means for movably connecting the bottom with the frame.

A folding display case comprising a frame, sides hinged to the frame, a front, a top and bottom movably connected to the front, and a pin and slot connection between the bottom and said frame, and means movably connecting the top with the frame to permit the top and bottom to be folded between the front and the frame.
, 3. A folding display case comprising a frame, sides hinged to the frame, a front, a top and bottom movably connected to the front, and pin and slot connections between the top and `bottom and the frame to permit the top and bottom to be folded between the front and the frame.-
4. A folding display case comprising a frame, sides hinged to the frame, a front, a top and bottom movably connected to the front, and a pin and slot connection between the frame and the top movably connecting them together to permit the top to be folded between the frame and front, means for movably connecting the bottom with the frame, and springs coacting with the pins to raise the top when the front is moved outwardly.
5. A folding display case comprising a frame, sides hinged to the frame, a front, a top and bottom movably connected to .the front, and a pin and slot connection between the frame andV the top movably connecting them together to permit the top to be folded between the frame and front, means for movably connecting the bottom with the frame, and springs located in said slots beneath said pins.
6. A folding display case comprising a frame, sides hinged to the frame, a front, a top and bottom movably connected to the front, and a pin and slot connection between the frame and the top movably connecting them togetherV to permit the top to be folded between the frame and front, means for movably connecting the bottom with the frame, and springs located in said slots and provided with heads engaging said pms.
7. A folding display case comprising a frame, sides hinged to the frame, a front, a top and bottom movably connected to the front, pins slidably carried by the top, said frame being provided with means to engage said pins when the top is raised.
8. A folding display case comprising a frame, sides hinged to the frame, a front, a top and bottom movably connected to the front, pins slidably carried by the top, said frame being provided with means to engage said pins when the top is raised, and spring acting means normally pressing said pins outwardly.
9. A folding display case comprising a frame, sides hinged to the frame, a front, a top and bottom movably connected to the front, pins slidably carried by the top, said frame being provided with openings adjacent the upper ends of the slots to receive said pins.
10.` A folding display case comprising a frame, sides hinged to the frame, and provided with springs normally pressing the sides outwardly, said sides being foldable within the frame, a front, a top and bottom hinged to the front, and means movably connecting the inner sides of the top and bottoni with the frame to fold between the sides and the front.
