FOLDING DISPLAY-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 20, 1911.
Patented Nov. 14, 1911.
Serial No. 609,580.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVIS VVnINsTooK, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Display-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a display case or show case, wherein the various walls may be folded together, so that the case may be placed in compact form for transportation and storage and may be readily opened out for use.
My invention comprises novel details of improvement and combinations of parts that will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein,
Figure 1 is a front view of a display case embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a rear view; Fig. 3 is a side view, looking from the right of Fig. 1; Fig. 1 is a view showing the sides collapsed and folded; Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5, 5, in Fig. 1; Fig. 6 is a detail section on the line 6, 6, in Fig. 1, showing the parts collapsed; Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a modified form of the case; Fig. 8 is a side view showing said case collapsed; Fig. 9 is a section on the line 9, 9, in Fig. 7, and Fig. 10 is a front view of Fig. 8.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
My improved case is provided with a front wall or panel 1, a rear frame 2, side walls or panels 3, a bottom 4-. and a top 5. The sides 3 are hinged to frame 2, by hinges 6, so as to fold inwardly over or in line with each other, and when opened out said sides extend between the front wall 1 and the top and bottom to maintain the case open. The front is provided at opposite sides with rearwardly extending stops 1 against which the front edges of the sides 3 are adapted to bear to limit their outward movement. Bottom 4: is made in a plurality of parts hinged together at the dividing line 7, by hinges 8, so that the parts of the bottom may fold upwardly between front wall 1 and frame 2, the rear member 4 of bottom 41 being hinged at 9 to frame 2 and the front member 4t being hinged at 10 to the front wall 1. The top 5 is likewise made in a plurality of parts joined at the dividing line 11 by hinges 12.
The member 5 at the top is hinged to frame 2 by hinges 12, and member 5 is hinged to the upper part of front wall 1 by hinges 13, so that the members of the top may fold inwardly between front wall 1 and frame 2 (see Figs. 4 and In the form shown in Figs. 7 to 10 the front wall 1 is hinged directly to top 5 at the hinges 12 which top is secured upon frame 2.
The back 14 may be made in a plurality of parts hinged at 15 to frame 2, as in Figs. 1 to 5, or said back may be in a single piece hinged at one edge to frame 2 as indicated at 15 in Figs. 7 to 10.
In the form shown in Figs. 1 to 5 one of the'back doors may be connected with frame 2 by a suitable clip 16 and pin 17 respectively on said frame and one door, and the other door 1 1 may be held closed by a fastener 18 on one of the doors engaging a keeper 19 on the other door, or both doors may be held closed by the parts 18, 19. In the form shown in Figs. 7 to 10 the door 14 may be held closed by clip 16 on the door engaging pin 17 on frame 2, or said parts may be reversed.
When the case is to be used, in the form shown in Figs. 1 to 5, the front wall is moved outwardly, the bottom is depressed, the top is raised, and the sides 3 are swung outwardly, between the parts 1, 2, t and 5, and brace the parts all together. WVhen the case is collapsed the top 5 and the bottom 4 are folded between the front wall 1 and folded sides 3, the latter being folded across frame 2.
In the form shown in Figs. 7 to 10 the front wall and sides are made inclined, the sides 3 maintaining the parts extended as before described. WVhen the case is collapsed the bottom is folded (Fig. 8), but the top 5 does not fold.
The front, sides and top may be made of glass panels having metal frames, or in other suitable manner.
Changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangements set forth, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having now described my invention what I claim is 1. A folding display case comprising a 'frame, sides hinged to said frame to fold inwardly in front thereof, a bottom hinged to the frame and having a plurality of members to fold in front of said frame and sides, a top hinged to the frame and having a plurality of members hinged together to fold in. front of the frame, and a front hinged to said bottom and to said top, said sides being adapted to extend between the top and bottom and between the frame and the front, said frame being open and provided with a hinged back adapted to swing relatively to said frame.
2. A folding display case comprising a frame, sides hinged to said frame to fold inwardly in front thereof, a bottom hinged to the frame and having a plurality of members to fold in front of said frame and sides, a top hinged to the frame and having a plurality of members hinged together to fold in front of the frame, and a front hinged to said bottom and to said top, said sides being adapted to extend between the.
3. A folding display case comprising a frame, sides hinged to the frame and adapted to fold inwardly thereon, a bottom movably secured to the frame and adapted to fold in front of the frame and the folded sides, a top on the frame, and a front hinged to said top and to said bottom, said sides being normally in contact with the top and front and bottom for retaining the several members of the case in unfolded relation.
4. A folding display case comprising a frame, a top on the frame, a front movably secured to said top and adapted to swing toward the frame, sides hinged to the frame and adapted to be folded inward between the frame and the front, a bottom hinged to the front and movably connected to the frame and adapted to be folded between the front and folded sides, said sides normally fitting snugly between the frame and front and top and bottom for retaining the several members of the case in unfolded relation.
5. A folding display case comprising a frame, a front, sides hinged to the frame and adapted to be folded upon the frame independently of the front, a top movably connected to the frame and front and adapted to be folded between the front and the folded sides, and a bottom movably connected to the frame and to the front and adapted to be folded between the folded sides and the front, said sides having their edges normally incontact with the inner surfaces of the front and top and bottom for retaining them in their unfolded relation.
6. A folding display case comprising a frame, a front, sides hinged to the frame and adapted to be folded upon the frame independently of the front, a top movably connected to the frame and front and adapted to be folded between the frame and the front, and a bottom movably connected to the frame and to the front and adapted to be folded between the frame and the front, said sides having their edges normally in contact with the inner surfaces of the front and top and bottom for retaining them in their unfolded relation.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 18th day of February, A. D. 1911.
