Be it known that I, OSCAR HERRMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new= and useful lVardrobe, 'of which' the following is a specification.

Y The invention relates toiinprovements in wardrobes.

The object of the present invention is to equip a wardrobe or analogous -cabinet with' central and side mirrors and to enable the side mirrors to be housed and concealed within the wardrobe when not in use, and to slidably and pivotally mount the side mirrors so that they may be withdrawn from the wardrobeand arranged at oppothe plane of the same or .at various angles thereto. v

With these and otherobje'cts in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, with'- in the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention. f

In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a wardrobe, constructed in accordance with this invention.A Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through one of the vertical mirror'freceiving pockets or spaces, illustrating the manner of holding the side mirrors. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail sectional view, taken substantially on the line lle-4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.

In the accompanying drawlngs 1n which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, 1 designates a wardrobe provided at the front with a mirror door 2 and equipped at opposite sides thereof with side mirrors 3. The door, which carries the central mirrors 2, is hinged to the body or frame of the wardrobe at 4, `and it is adapted to be opened to aii'ord access to the interior compartment 5 of the wardrobe. It isequipped at its free edge with a suitable latch having an exterior knob or handle 6r The body of the wardrobe or cabinet, which may be constructed ofany suitable material and finished in any desired man neig-is provided at o posite sides with inner and outer walls and 8, spaced apart to provide vertical side pockets or spaces 9 for the reception of the side mirrors 3. The side `pockets or spaces extend fromthe top to the bottom of the wardrobe, and are equipped at the top and bottom with guide bars or pieces 10, provided with longitudinal grooves 11, forming upper and lower ways for slides with which the side mirrors are pivotally connected by upper and lower horizontal oscillatory arms 12. Each slide is composed of a vertical rod or bar 13 and upper and lower horizontal plates or pieces 14, iitted aoainst thehorizontal guide bars and provi -ed with pins 15, projecting from the slidable plates or pieces 14 and extending into the guide grooves. The upper and lower terminals 16 of the vertical rod or bar 13 are reduced and pierce the upper and lower slidable plates or pieces 14 and :project therefrom into the guide grooves, and lcoperate with the projecting pins in slidably connecting the plates or pins 14 with the guide strips. i

The Wardrobe is prov-ided at the front ends of the guide bars with upper and lower blocks or pieces 17, extending across the guide grooves and forming stops/or abutments for the vprojecting pins 15 for limiting the outward movement of the slides. The pins l5 are located at points intermediate of the ends of the slidable plates or pieces 14, which are adapted to project outwardly beyond the front of the wardrobe when the slides are at the limit of their forward or outward movement, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 ofthe drawings.

The inner ends of the upper and lower horizontal arms 12 are connected to the pro jecting outer portions of the slidable plates or pieces by vertical pintles 18, arranged in registering perforations of the arms 12 and the said plates or pieces 14, but the inner ends ofthe arms or links may be pivotally or hingedly connected with the slide in any other preferred manner. The outer ends of the horizontal arms are connected with the upper and lower edges of the side mirrors at the centers thereof by vertical pivots 19, projecting from attaching plates 20 and tting in eyes or openings in the outer ends of the `arms 12. The attaching plates 2O are provided with perforations for the reception of screws or other suitable fastening devices for securing them to the frames of the side mirrors. Y

The pivotal connections at the inner and outer terminals of the arms 12 permit the latter to be arranged either in alinement withkthe slidable plates or pieces or at an angle thereto. When it is desired to fold the side mirrors into the pockets or spaces at the sides of the wardrobe, the horizontal arms are swung to a position in alinement with the' pockets and the side mirrors are turned in the plane of the same. The mirrors are then moved inwardly into the pockets or spaces and are housed and protected when not in use. lVhen it is desired to use the side mirrors, the latter are-pulled outwardly and are carried beyond the body of the 'wardrobe and are pivotally supported and are adapted to be swung on their own pivots and also on the pivots of the inner ends of the upper and lower links, whereby the side mirrors are adapted to be arranged in the desired position and at the desired angle.

The side mirrors are equipped at their outer endswith vertical closure strips 21, having their upper and lower terminals 22 and 23 projecting from 'the top and bottom of the mirror frames to cover and conceal the side pockets and to present a neat finish to the wardrobe when the side mirrors are contained within the same. The closure strips extend from the top to the bottom of the wardrobe and in practice they may be ornamented 1n any desired manner and when the side mirrors are closed, they and the side pockets in which they are arranged are concealed from view and the wardrobe presents an appearance similar to an ordinary wardrobe. The lower projecting portions of the closure strips preferably extend to the floor, or other supporting surface to form legs for supporting the outer portions of the side mirrors to relieve the upper and lower arms 12 of strain when the side mir-V rors arein an extended position. The side vmirrors are also provided with suitable han-- dles 24 secured to the closure strips at the central portion thereof and adapted to enable the side mirrors to be readily handled.

Although in the accompanying drawings, the central and side mirrors are shown ap? novaaoa plied to a wardrobe, yet it will be clear that the side mirrors with their pockets and the means for slidably connecting the same with the pockets may be utilized in any other structure where it is desirable to employ central andside mirrors and have the side mirrors arranged out of the way and concealed from view when not in use.

What is claimed is 1. A device of the class described ,having a central fixed mirror and provided at opposite sides with inwardly extending vertical pockets, horizontal guides arranged at the top and bottom of the pockets, slides mounted in the guides, horizontally swinging arms pivotally connected to the slides and adapted to be carried into and o-ut of the said pockets by the slides, and pivoted mirrors carried by the arms and movable into and out `of the said pockets.

2. A device of the class described having a central fixed mirror and provided at opposite sides thereof with inwardly extending vertical pockets, horizontal guides arranged at the top and bottom of the pockets, slides including upper and lower slidable pieces having projections extending into the guides, and a vertical bar having its terminals piercing the said slidable pieces and projecting into the guides and cooperating with the said projections to slidably interlock the said pieces with the guides, horizontally swinging arms pivotally connected to the slides and adapted to be carried into and out of the said pockets, and pivoted mirrors carried by the said arms and movable into and out of the said pockets.

8. A device of the class described including a cabinet or frame having an inwardly extending vertical pocket, horizontal guides arranged at the top and bottom ofy the pocket, slides mounted in the guides, horito the slides and adapted to be carried into and out of the said pocket by the slides,

and a mirror pivoted at its top and bottom to and carried by the arms and movable into and out of the said pocket.
