Description

l.. FELDMANN VANITY BOX Filed Nov. s, 1923 wn-NESSV ATTORNEY Patented May 19, 1925.
UNITED STATES LOUIS FELDMANN, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
VANITY BOX.
Application led November 3, 1923. Serial No. 672,566.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, Louis FELDMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vanity Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toilet articles, particularly to powder boxes or so called vanity boxes, and has'for its object the provision of a box of this character equipped with means for holding a small photograph. of some loved one so that the picture will be handy for inspection, the intention being that the box be forme-d with some ornamental feature which will define a proper setting for the picture.
An important object is the provision of a box of this character provided with novel means whereby the photograph holder may be detachably engaged so that the picture might be removed and replaced by another if such should be desired.
An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, neat and attractive in appearance and a general improvement in the art.
`With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in
which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the box in closed position,
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof in open position,
Figure?) is a detail section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1 and Figure is a perspective view of the picture holder removed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings I have shown the box as comprising a circular bottom portion 10 equipped with a lid 11 hinged at 12 and provided with any ordinary or preferred catch 18 for holding it shut. The bottom 10 is intended to contain powder either in loose or cake form and also to hold the usual puff though it is of course conceivable that the device might be used or adapted for other purposes.
On the lid or cover I provide a raised or embossedl portion 14 which might be of any ornamental design and I also prefer to form the cover at some point wit-h an 4initial 15 though this last mentioned detail is not essential. It is intended that the embossed portion 14 be of such a character to form an appropriate setting for a small photograph or other picture indicated at 16. For retaining this picture in place, I provide a ring 17 of a size to fit about the picture and this ring is formed with a pair of prongs 18 which are extended through slots 19 in the cover and upset or clinched on the underside.
It is customary to provide boxes of this character with a mirror and I therefore mount within the cover a mirror 2O held in place by a removable ring 21 which is preferably of the split type and which will operate to hold the mirror in place. When in position the mirror entirely conceals from view the clinched or upset ends of the prongs 18 so that there will be nothing disliguring about the attachment. The box is of course used in exactly the same manner as any other for the same purpose but it will be neat, attractive and in factrornamental besides having the advantage of holding a picture of a love-d one in a `very convenient place where it may be inspected whenever such is desired.
If for any reason it is desired to change the picture, it is first necessary to remove the ring 21 and mirror 20 and then bend the prongs 18 so that the ring 17 may be removed froin the cover, after which another picture may be placed in position and the parts assembled into the original form.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, vconstruction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
A vanity case having a cover formed with an upwardly or outwardly pressed area, said area being formed with spaced slots, and
means for holding a picture or the like upon said area comprising a rim member disposable over the picture whereby to confine the same against said area, said rim member being formed with spaced depending tongues adapted to be inserted through said slots and clinched for preventing removal.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
LOUISk FELDMANN.
