BENJAMIN GI-IAFETZ,
or NEW YORK, N. Y..
FINGER RING AND CIGARETTE HQLDER.
Application filed. May 27, 1921. Serial No. 473,037;
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN CHAFE-TZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at city of New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Finger Rings and Cigarette Holders.
This invention relates to combination linger ring and cigarette holders.
One object thereof is to provide a finger ring with means for conveniently holding a cigarette while the ring is in place on'the finger.
Another object thereof is to provide a finger ring with means for holding a cigarette which means shall at the same time serve (when not in use as. a cigarette holder) to enhance the ornamental appearance of the A: further object is to provide a device of the character described which shall be eX- ceedingly simple and neat in construction, and cheap to manufacture.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawings, in which is shown one of various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is an end view of an embodiment of my invention with the cigarette holding portion in operative position;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the combination finger ring and cigarette holder in use;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the combination finger ring and cigarette holding means in down-folded position when not in use; and
Fig. 1 is a partial sectional view enlarged showing the means for holding the cigarette holding portion in place on the finger ring when said holding portion is not in use.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the
embodiment of my invention there illustrated shows the invention as applied to a finger ring of the signet type. 10 indicates the band portion which is of suitable ornamental shape and terminates at the top in a flat oval or otherwise suitably shaped signet portion 11. Upstanding from said flat portion 11 is a similarly shaped panel 12, concentric with said fiat portion and of smaller diameter, thus leaving a border 13 surrounding said panel 12. Hinged tosaid flat portion 11 as at 14L is a ring member 15 of similar shape to the upstanding panel 12 and having an internaldiameter sub stantially equal to the diameter of said panel, and of such thickness as to completely cover and be in registry with the said oval border 13. T his ring member is further of a height or depth exactly equal to the height to which said panel 12 upstands from the. flat portion 11, so that when said ringportion 15 is in closed position (Fig.
it is disposed exactly over theoval border 13 with its upper exposed surface 16 flush with the upper or exposed surface of the panel 12. The panel thus appears when the ring member is in closed position, as showing through an oval or otherwise suitably shaped frame provided by the ring'member 15. In'this way, the ring member aids in giving an enhanced ornamental appearance to the ring in co-operat'ing to form a decorative signet portion. If desired, a suitable decoration such as a monogram appear on the panel which will thus be advantageously set off by the frame provided by the ring. The hinge 14 is preferably made small and arranged inconspicuously so as not to detract from the ornamental appearance of the ring.
To maintain the ring member 15 securely 111 closed position, any suitable locking means may be provided. In the form shown in the drawing, a socket 17 is formed in the flat portion 1.1 to receive a corresponding projection 18 extending from the end face of the ring portion 15. To facilitate. the opening or unlocking of this ring member, a small thumb projection 19 may be provided on the periphery thereof.
This ring member 15 serves also as the cigarette holding device. When said ring member is swung about its hinge into vertical position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, it provides a convenient receptacle for a cigarette 20 shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. In said position, the lower periphery of the ring member abuts against the body of the finger ring as at 9.1 and thus maintains itself in operative position.
In the use of the invention in practice, the wearer of the ring when he desires to use the same as a cigarette holder, without disturbing the position of the ring in any way, simply opens the ring member 15 into the operative position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, in the manner hereinbefore described, he then inserts the cigarette in said ring portion 15 and in this way uses the finger ring as an ordinarycigarette holder. The wearer of the ring thus avoids the necessity of a separate cigarette holder and further the annoyance or having to put the same aside in order to leave his hands free when desired, since when the ring is used as a cigarette holder, the fingers are all free for any desired purpose.
It will thus .be seen that there is provided apparatus in which the several objects of this invention are achieved and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it .is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1.. A combination finger ring and cigarette holder comprising a finger ring having a top portion, a panel upstanding from said top portion and of smaller diameter than the latter, and a ring member hinged to said top portion of internal diameter substantially equal to the diameter of said panel portion and shaped to adapt the same for receiving cigarettes.
2. A combination fin er ring and cigarette holder comprising a finger ring having a flat top portion, a panel upstanding from said top portion and of smaller diameter than the latter, and a ring member hinged to said top portion of internal diameter sub stantially equal to the diameter of said panel portion, and of such thickness and height as to be substantially flush with said panel portion and to permit said panel portion to be in registry with said ring member when the latter is in closed position, said ring member being shaped to adapt the same for receiving cigarettes.
A combination finger ring and cigarette holder comprising a finger ring having a fiat top portion, a panel upstanding from said top portion and of smaller diameter than the latter, and a. ring member hinged to said top portion of internal diameter substantially equal to the diameter of said panel portion and shaped to adapt the same for receiving cigarettes, and co-operating means on said finger ring portion and said ring member for holding the latter securely in closed position.
