COMBINED VANITY CASE AND FLASHLIGHT Filed Feb. 25, 1936 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Inventor Sept. 7, 1937; P. MAILLOUX COMBINED VANITY CASE AND FLASHLIGHT Filed Feb. 25, 1936 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Sept. 7, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,092,355 comma!) vANrrY CASE AND msnmenr Patrick Mailloux, West Warwick, 1:. 1. Application February 25, 1926, Serial No. 65,698 1 Claim. (c1. IMO-6.45)
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
1 In the drawings: v
Figure 1 represents a perspective view showing the case in open position.
Figure 2 represents a vertical'sectional-view through the case with the top in partly open 20 position.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view taken substantially on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings wherein like immerals designate like parts, it can. be seen that the device includes a rectangular shaped case 5 having the swingable back wall 6 and the stationary front wall I, the front wall i having the centrally located opening 8 therein.
Hingedly connected to the end 6 of the case 5 is the cover 9 within which the mirror Ill is mounted. This lid 9 is provided with a swingable plate I l'at its free end having a spring catch. l2. This plate Ii can be swung down over the window 8 and the catch l2 can engage under the adjacent end of the case and preferably over the small protuberance i 3. (See Figure 2.)
40 The swingable rear wall 6 is also provided with a spring catch ll for engaging under a small protuberance IS on the bottom of the case 6.
The case 61s divided by the partition l6 into upper compartments l1 and i8 and this partition I6 is further formed into the lipstick and eyebrow pencil troughs I92|l..
The compartment below the partition I6 is denoted by numeral 2| and is intended to re-.
ceive the flat electric battery 22. A spring 23 50 between the rear wall 6 and the base end of the battery 22 serves to urge the contact 24 of the battery against the center contact of the bulb 2i situated behind the frosted window 26 in the opening 8 of the front wall I of the case. A combined socket and reflector construction 21 is located rearwardly of thewindow 26 and sup- 5 ports the bulb 25 and this reflector 21, the bulb 25 and the window 26 are all located between the small side compartments 28 which may be employed for containing perfume or similar toilet articles for cosmetics and these compart- 1o ments 28 are provided with slidable' closures 29-29. g
The powder and rouge compartments "-43 are provided with covers 30.
One side wall of the case 6 is slotted as at 3| and a push button 32 connected with the metallic case 6 can be urged inwardly to engage the spring contact 33 which extends to the thread portion of the bulb 25.
Obviously when the bulb 32 is pushed inwardly and engages the spring 33, a circuit is coxnpleted through the lamp and battery22.
The cover-9 canbe disposed in the position shownin Figure '1 so that the mirror Ill can be employed and the light from the bulb 25 will '11- 25 luminate the features of the person using the device so that the users features will be very clear in the mirror. When the device is to be used as a flashlight, the top 9 is thrown down and the plate H thrown laterally so that light can pass through the windows 26.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood. that numerous changes inthe shape, size, materials may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what I claim as new is:
A toilet article'comprising a case having a 40 swingable top, a mirror atthe inside of the' top, a lamp mounted in the case under; the free end of the top, a window in the case at the end thereof adjacent the lamp through which light from the lamp can pass, a plate hingedly con- 5 \nected to the free end of the top and provided with a spring detent for engagement under the case to secure the top to the case when the plate is disposed across the front of the said window.
