c. L. MARCUS VANITY CASE Filed March 12, 1923 4. 16 I) INVENTOR i ffimfrsfiwnd flan-as ATTORNEY Patented June 5, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VANITY CASE.
Application filed March 12, 1923.
This invention relates to vanity cases. One object thereof is to provide a device of the character described wherein various cosmetics for boudoir and toilet purposes may be held in a convenient manner so as to permit the use of the same mirror irrespective of which of the cosmetics is being used at the time.
Another object is to rovide a device of the character described w iich shall be neat and ornamental in appearance, simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, and eiiicient in operation to a high degree.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention shown in open position' Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof with the powder pufi' removed and the rouge compartment swung out of the main compartment;
Fi 3 is a perspective view showing the as mem er which carries the rouge compartment; and
Fig. 4 is a partial vertical cross-sectionai view of the cosmetic compartment showing the construction of the smaller rouge compartment and the manner of its attachment to the main compartment.
Referring in detail to the drawing. the vanity case there shown is seen to comprise a receptacle or container 10, made of metal 45 or other suitable material, to which is hinged as at 11 a cover member 12, havin on the inner face thereof a mirror13. T16 latter may be set into the cover in any suitable manner.
In the form shown in the drawing, the vanity case is cylindrical in configuration,
Serial No. 624,650.
but other shapes may, of course, be employed. In the container or receptacle 10 is placed a cosmetic such as a compact face powder 13', on which is superimposed the usual powder putt 14. Fitted into the compartment or container 10 is an annular member 15 of resilient material adapted to fit into the container or main compartment 10. Hinged to this annular member 15, as at 16, is a smaller auxiliary container 17 for holding another cosmetic 18 such as rouge. This container is provided with a cover member 19 hinged at the bottom thereof as at 20, so that the container as a whole may be overturned and 5 swung out from the main compartment about the hinge 16 when the cover 19 will be positioned at the top of the auxiliary container and may then be opened about its hinge 20 so as to give access to the contents 7 thereof. In this way, the vanity case may be used with the same mirror both with the compact and the rouge as desired, as wiil be readily understood.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a container of the character described, a main com artment and an auxiliary compartment a apted to be swung out so of said main compartment, said auxiliary compartment being carried on a resilient member adapted to be fitted into the main compartment.
2. In a device of the character described, a main compartment, an auxiliary container held normally in said main compartment, and means for moving said auxiliary container out of said main compartment, said auxiliary compartment being carried on a resilient member adapted to be fitted into the main compartment.
3. In a device of the character described,
a main com artment, an auxiliary compartment hinge thereto and adapted to be overturned so as to be swun out of said main compartment, said auxiliary compartment being carried on a resilient member adapted to be fitted into the main compartment.
4. In a device of the character described, a main com artment, an auxiliary compartment hinge thereto and adapted to be overturned so as to be swung out of said main compartment, and a cover member for said auxiliary compartment held at the bottom thereof.
5. In a vanity case, a main compartment and a resilient member fitted therein and friotionally engaging the interior Wall thereof by the spring action of said member, and an auxiliary compartment hinged to said member for swinging into and out of the 10 main eompal'tmen In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CHARLES LIONEL MARCUS.
