A. RYBICKY CIGARETTE AND MATCH BOX Filed 001:. 26, 1922 Patented July 29, 1924 lessees -ANTONINA RYBICKY, OF NEW LONDON, CONNECTICUT.
CIGARETTE AND MATCH BOX.
Application filed October 26, 1922. Serial No. 597,023.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTONINA Rxnroxr, a citizen of Poland, residing at New London, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette and Match Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates'to cigarette boxes, having more particular reference to a cigarette box with which is combined a match holder.
The invention has for a general object to provide a combined cigarette and match box, and further to provide a novel construction whereby the match compartment is moved to an accessible position.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my improved cigarette and match box, showing the cover open.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view, showing a modified form of box with the cover open.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view of this modified form of box, this view being taken at the point indicated by the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, but showing the cover closed.
As here shown my improved combination box is of the flat rectangular shape common to cigarette boxes comprising a body 10 to which is hinged a cover 11, the cover having a depending flange 12 adapted to take over the top portion of the edge wall 13 of the box. To hold the matches I provide in the body of the box, adjacent one end there of, a small compartment or receptacle 14.to receive the same. This compartment may extend substantially the full width of the box, so as to completely separate the matches from the cigarettes, novel means being provided to permit of access to the open end thereof, and the ready removal of the matches.
As shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the match receptacle 14 is constructed as a unit independently of the main box 10 and is hinged to the latter on the side to which cover 11 is hinged, the match receptacle being hinged along its top edge, at the point indicated at 15 in Fig. 2, it being understood that the hinging is done in the manner common in hinging the covers of cigarette boxes. Attached at one end to the inside of the cover 11' and at its opposite end to the top face of the match receptacle 14 is a tape 16, while a second tape 17 is similarly attached at opposite ends to the bottom face of the receptacle 14 and the bottom of the box 10.
These tapes are of such length as to be pulled taut when the cover 11 assumes a position substantially at right angles to the body of the box and the match receptacle a position inclined approximately thirty degrees to the box, although the angles may be varied.
As will be apparent, when the cover is opened the tape 16 is tensioned after the cover 11 has opened part way, thus causing the receptacle 14 to swing upwardly and expose the open end thereof above the wall of the box 10, the tape 17 finally tensioning when the cover has swung to a position substantially at right angles to the box.
When the cover is closed the match re ceptacle 14 swings back within the box, the tapes 16, 17 collapsing as will be understood. To facilitate withdrawal of the matches the match receptacle 14 may have a finger notch 18dcut in the top face thereof at its free on Having thusdescribed my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United, States is as follows A package of cigarettes and matches in cluding a main box, a cover hinged thereto, a relatively small match receptacle extending along one wall of the box, thereby leaving a cigarette compartment to one side thereof, said match receptacle being hinged at one end to the side of the box to which the cover is hinged and having its opposite end in close proximity to the opposite side of the box and open for the removal of matches the top Wall of said receptacle at its open end being formed with a finger notch, and a pair of tapes connected at one end to the top and bottom faces respectively of said match receptacle and at opposite ends respectively to the cover and the bottom of the box, whereby upon raising the lid, the matches are raised to an accessible position, While the cigarettes remain undis- 10 turbed in their compartment.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
ANTONINA RY-BICKY.
