FRANK P. BIRD, OF CHILIDS, MARYLAND.
COMBINATION BOX.
Application filed October 7, 1925. Serial No. 61,067.
This invention relates to an improved box for holding tobacco, the general object of the invention being to provide a separate compartment in the box for holding matches so 5 that one box will carry a supply of tobacco and matches.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of the invention with the lid of the match box raised.
Figure 2 is a plan view with the parts in closed position.
Figure 3 is a sectional view through the upper portion of the device.
Figure l is a section on line 44t of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a view of the top of the main box in raised position.
In these views, 1 indicates the body of the box which may be of the usual or any desired construction and is deslgned to hold tobacco used in pipes and for making cigarettes. The top 2 is hinged to the body at one side by the hinge 3. This top 2 is formed with a casing i in its under part which provides a chamber 5 for holding matches. This chamber is provided with a hinged lid 6 which is hinged at one end to the top as shown at 7, and has a depending spring part 8 at its other end which has a depression therein for engaging a projection 9 formed on one end of the top 2.
Thus I have provided a tobacco boxwith a match box in its hinged top so that a supply of matches can be carried with the tobacco and both the tobacco and matches will be readily at hand when desired for use. The match box being arranged in the top of the can or box will not interfere with the removal of the contents of the box and the matches, can be taken from the match box after the tobacco box has been closed.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What i claim is A tobacco box comprising a body, a cover for the same hinged to one side thereof a casing depending from the bottom face of the cover for forming a match receiving chamber, the cover having an opening in its top for exposing the interior of the cham her and a lid hinged to the cover a slight distance from one end thereof for covering the opening and enclosing the match chamber, the free end of the lid being bent downwardly to form a latch part and a projection on one end of the cover for cooperating with the latch part to hold the lid closed.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
