i CHARLES S. HEFFNER, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
CIGARETTE CARTON.
Application led .Tune 30,
a specification.
rIhe present invention relates to a carton especially adapted for receiving cigarettes and the like and vhas for its principal object to provide means forV supporting iatches so that the same will be conveniently accessible.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which may be manufactured at a comparatively low cost, durable, compact, reliable, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
VlNith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Y Figure l is a perspective of the carton showing the same in an open position.
Figure 2 is a transverse section `taken therethrough, and
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section taken therethrough.
,Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the carton consists of the boX iA which may be of any preferred construc- Vtion having hinged thereto the 'cover 2 whichalso may be of any preferred construction. In the present modification I have shown the boX l constructed with the inner box like structure 3 having the strip l arranged thereabout adjacent its lower edge so as to f-orm a shoulder for the box like cover 2 which abuts the upper edge of the strip when in a closed position.
My invention consists in housing a plurality of matches conveniently in the cover 2 so as to not interfere with the contents of the box l and I accomplish this by providing a hinged leaf 5 which has one longitudinal edge preferably pasted tothe insideVv 1922. Serial No. 571,855.
of the 'cover 2 and supports a plurality of matches 6 upon one side thereof preferably the upper side or the side adjacent the cover 2 so as to not come into contact with the contents of the boX l. I preferably mount these matches 6 upon the leaf 5 by pasting the sticks or stems thereof to the leaf so that the matches may be readily andA easily removed for use when desired.
It will readily be seen that I have provided a compact structure wherein both cigarettes may be carried thus obviating the necessity of a cigarette user in carrying both a cigarette receptacle and a match receptacle or'soine other lighting device or devices. 1
changes may be made in the details kof construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts without departing from the spiiit of the invention as' hereinafter claimed. y
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is In combination, afcarton including a box and a cover therefor, said boX including a box-like structure and a strip arranged thereabout on its interiorV adjacent its bottom end, said cover being of a box-like structure and adapted to rest on said strip when in closed position, a leaf hingedly mounted in the cover forming a closure therefor and positioned so as to rest on the edge of the box when the cover is in a closed position, and matches detachably secured to the leaf so as tol be entirely encased within the boxlike struct-ure of the cover and the leaf when said lleaf is closed in relation wto the cover.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signa ture in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES S. I-IEFFNER.
