I i nnrnon n. CALVIRD, or rAnMINeroN, MISSOURI ToBAoco can '1 Application filed January 13,'193(). Serial no. 420,427; f
The present invention relates .to tobacco cans andhasfor its principal object to provide a match container therein. V
A further object of the invention is to provide a match container carried at the bottom of the can and which may be moved upward-- ly into the can as the tobacco is consumed so as to retain the unused tobacco adjacent the open end of the can. p I v A further object is to provide'an article of this character of a simple and practical construction, neat and attractive in appear- 7 ance, which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture and'otherwise well adapted for the v purpose for which the same is intended Other objects and advantages of the inven tion reside in the special construction, combination and arrangement of the various elements forming the invention as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings I forming part hereof, wherein likenumerals referto like parts throughout, and in which: Figure 1 is a side elevational view,
a line 22 of Figure 1, i V
Figure 3 is atransverse seotional'view along a'line3--3 of Figure 1, and w Figure 4 is a perspective view of the match container; I s Referring now to the drawings in detail,
the numeral 5 designates a tobacco container of conventional construction which is open at,
" 6. The container is adapted for holding a quantity of tobacco 7 which is preferably placed therein within 'a paper wrapper or package8. v l A match container 9'is carried within the bottom end'of the container and is constructed substantially in thefform ofv a tray inverted- 1y arranged within thecontainer and secured in position by the lower cover 6. Thejwalls 10 of the match container are relatively low so as to form the match holder of relatively shallow construction. and thus occupy -rela-. tively small space within the container.
One side of the walls 10 are'cut awayas shown at 11 to prevent interference therewith by the hinge 12 of the cover. 7
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view'ialong v p tioned in one end of the container and moveach end and provided'with hinged covers The match holder is adapted to fit snugly 1 within the walls of the containersoas to be I retained in position therein by frictional engagement when the tobacco has been partly consumed; After the tobacco is consumed the match holder 9 is moved upwardly into the container thus maintaining the level of the unused tobacco adjacent the upper portion of the container. 7 V r As the tobacco is consumed the space below.
the match'liolder :will become enlarged and 1 thus serve, to accommodate additional 5 matches, or other objects if desired.
It is obvio'usthat my inventionissusceptible to various changes and modifications in U5 construction without. departing from the spirit offthe invention or the scope of'the all such forms of the device to which I am entitled; 7 V I-Iaving thus described my invention,-what I claim as new is: o
15A tobaccocontainer of the class described open at' each end, covers foreach end of. the container and a match holder posiable longitudinally thereof, v
2. A tobacco container of the class de- 1 scribed open at each end and provided with covers at each end and-a match-holder positioned' in one end ,of the container having its walls in" frictional engagement with the walls of the container whereby to retain, the match holder: in, a predetermined position longi-- tudinally of the container. 3. =A tobacco container vof the class de- 1 scribed having each end open, covers hingedly carried at the ends of the container for a closing the same and a matchholder carried at the lowerend of the container and comprising'a tray invertedly arranged and'movable upwardly of the container as the tobacco is used therefrom, said. holder having its .wallsin frictional engagement with the walls of the'container for securing the holder in a predetermined position. V i In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
