COMBINED CASE AND DISPLAY DEVICE Sept. 8, 1931.
Filed July 2, 1929 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 8, 1931 UNITED STATES.
JOSEPH s. CABLE, OF ALTOONA, PENNSYLVANIA COMBINED CASE AND DISPLAY DEVICE Application filed July 2, 1929.
This invention relates to a combined case and display device for articles, such as am pules, or containers for fuel used in cigarette lighters and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide a box or cas ing divided into a number of comp rtments for holding a plurality of ampu es, with means for displaying one of the ampules on the raised lid of the box, whereby the device can be used for shipping and storing impules and when placed on a counter or the like, can be used for displaying the ampules.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combina- 15 tion and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described. illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.-
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the box in closed petition.
Figure 2 is a front view showing the device used for display purposes.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a section on line 44 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a view of the blank from which the box is made.
Figure 6 is a View of the tab used for supporting one of the ampules on the lid of the box.
As shown in these views, the box A comprises a body part 1 and a lid part 2, the body and lid being formed from a single blank of material, as shown in Figure 5. The rear 40 part of the boX is made of greater height than the front part thereof and the upper edges of the ends slope downwardly from the rear to the front. The lid is formed with a large flap 2 which overlaps the front of the box when the lid is closed. as shown Serial No. 375,414.
in Figure 1, and the covering part of the flap formed with a tongue 3 which is cut from the lid and is hingedly connected there with by the scored line which separates the front flap 2 from the rest of the lid. This tongue is formed with a slit 4. and the flap 2 is formed with a slit 5 and the other part of the lid is formed with a slit 6 adjacent its rear edge. Notched partitions 7 are so placed in the body that they will form a plurality of compartments for receiving the fuel containors 8 or other articles, and by raising the lid and folding the flap 2 rearwardly, the slit 6 will register with the slit 5 so that a tab 9, bent on the scored lines 1-0, can have one of its bent ends pass through these two slits and its other bent end pass through the slit 4 in the tongue after the tongue is raised. One end of the tab is provided with a large opening 11 and its other end with a small opening 12, so that the ends of an ampule can be placed in these openings or holes, as shown in Figures 2 and 4, it being seen that the ends of the tab are passed through the slits from the rear. This tab also acts to hold the parts of the lid in raised position.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided an inexpensive device for holding a plurality of articles for shipment and storage and one chamber used as a display device by placing one of the articles on the raised lid.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A device of the class describedcomprising a box, a lid connected with the box and consisting of a rear flap and a front flap, said flaps being separated by a scored line, a
tongue formed by cutting the rear flap, the tongue being connected to the front flap by said scored line, each flap and tongue having a slit therein, the slits in the two flaps registering with each other when the lid is raised and the front flap folded upon the other flap and a tab bent adjacent its ends and adapted to be passed through the two slits in the flaps and the slit in the tongue when the tongue raised, said ends of the tabs having holes therein for receiving portions of an article. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
