F. G. CRANE El AL PAPER DISPENSING PACKAGE 'Filed July 6, 1931 INVENTOR Frank 6. Crane Ear! JBen/o/z 3Y4 4 4' 8 M4 ATTORNEYS May 23, 1933.
Patented May 23, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FRANK G. CRANE, F MON'IAGUE, AND EARL J. BENTON, OFlVIUSKEGON, MICHIGAN PAPER DISPENSING PACKAGE Application filed July 6, 1931.
ment of our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of our improved paper dispensing package.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse section on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a top plan viewof the carton or box blank.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary section showing how the paper towels or other paper to be dispensed is arranged in overlapping relation.
Fig. 5 is a perspective of one of the paper sheets. r
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary enlarged section on line 6-6 of Fig.- 1, and
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary view similar to Fig. 2 showing the position of the front flap when closed.
Referring to the drawing whichillustrates a practical embodiment of our invention, numeral 1 indicates the blank for the carton or box which is preferably made of cardboard or heavy gauge paper. The back wall 2 is provided with spaced tab slits 3 at the top edge thereof and end walls 4 extending forwardly therefrom along the scored lines 5. A bottom 6 also extends forwardly from the back wall 2 along scored line 7. The bottom 6 is provided with end flaps 8 which are folded upwardly along the scored lines '5.
A front wall 9 having a longitudinal paper dispensing slit 10 is folded upwardly from the bottom 6 along the scored line 11 The front wall 9 is provided with outer end walls 12 having wall attaching tabs 13 ex- Serial No. 548,732.
tending therefrom which are adapted to support the bottom of the box adjacent a sup- )ort.
I The tabs 13 have openings 14 for the-passage of nails or the like.
An inner fiap 15 is folded inwardly from the front wall 9 along the scored line 16 and is provided with supporting tabs 17 which are adapted to project through the tab slits 3 in the back wall 2 as illustrated by Figs. 1 and 6. The tabs 17 are providedwith' openings 18 for facilitating their attachment to a support.
An outer flap 19 extends forwardly from the back wall 2 to which it is connected by the scored line 20 and is provided with end flaps 21. A closure flap 22 which is connected to the outer flap 19 along the weakened scored line 23, extends downwardly over the front wall 9 slightly below the dispensing slit 10; If desired, the front flap 22 may be torn from the outer top 19 along thescored line 23 and may be tucked into the slot to completely close the package when the package is mounted for use.
The carton is filled with plurality of paer sheets 24 for example towels which are olded at 25 and arranged so that the halves of alternate sheets face each other in overlapping relation and so that as a sheet is withdrawn through the dispensing slit 10, a portion of the next sheet is also withdrawn through the dispensing slit for its ready Withdrawal. The carton is preferably formed by folding the blank along the scored lines 7, 11, 16, 20 and 23. At this stage, the inner top 15 is sealed. to the outer top 19. The carton is then filled with the sheets 24 arranged in the manner described above with the sheets adjacent the front wall 9 extending upwardly through the dispensing slit 10 and under the closure flap 22 as illustrated by Fig. 7. The end flaps 8 and 21 are then folded inwardly and the inner end walls 4 are folded over the end flaps. The outer end walls 12 are thenqfolded over and sealed to the inner end flaps 4. The package and its contents are then ready for shipment and sale.
The consumer may attach it to a support by means of the tabs 17 and 13 described above. If desired, the closure flap 22 may be torn away from the package at the weakened connection to the outer top flap. The sheets may be removed from the package as desired by withdrawing them successive- 1y through the dispensing slot 10 as described above.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specificall described embodiment of our invention witliout departingfrom the spirit thereof, such chan es and modifications being restricted on y by the scope of the following claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A paper dispensing package comprising a back wall having spaced tab slits at the top edge thereof, end walls extending from said back wall, a bottom extending from said back wall having end flaps, a front wall extending from said bottom and having a longitudinal dispensing slit, end walls extending from said front wall having attaching tabs extending therefrom, anvinner top wall flap extending from said front Wall having attaching tabs disposed through said tab slits, an outer top'wall flap extending from said back wall over said inner top wall having end flaps, and a closure flap extending from said outer top Wall flap and extending beyond saiddispensing slit, the connection between said closure flap and said outer top wall flap being weakened, whereby the closure flap may be easily torn oif at said connection.
2. A paper dispensing package comprising a back wall having spaced tab slits at the top edge thereof, end walls extending from said back wall, a bottom extending from said back wall, a front wall extending from said boting weakened, whereby the closure flap may be easily torn off at said connection. 3.
