T. R. MCDONALD CIGARETTE CASE FOR BATHERS Original- J 1926 J2 Attorney Patented May 29, 1928.
UNITED STATES THOMAS E. MCDONALD, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
CIGARETTE CASE ron Bananas. I
Applicationfiled June 9, 1926, Serial No. 114,747. Renewed March 22, 1928.
This invention relates to cigarette cases specifically adapted for use by bathers in order that the cigarettes and matches may be carried into the water without any liability of the same becoming damaged by water or moisture.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a cigarette case of the above mentioned character that is extremely simple of construction, inexpensive of manufacture, and of such a nature as not to become readily broken even though subjected to rough usage by the bather.
Other objects will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same con'iprising the novel form, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and'claimed.
In the accompanying drawing wherein like reference characters indicate like parts throughoutthe several views: I
Figure 1 is a detail longitudinal section of a bathers cigarette case constructed in accordance with the present invention, the dotted lines disclosing the lid of the case when removed from the body and further disclosing the cigarette and match receptacle in outwardly swung positionwith respect to the case body in order that properv access may be had to the cigarettes and matches.
Figure 2 is aninner side elevation of the case lid, and
Figure 8 is a plan view of the case when the lid is removed therefrom.
Now havingparticular reference to the drawing, my novel cigarette case constitutes the provision of a circular body 5 open at one side and rabbeted and threaded externally at said open side for receiving the interiorly threaded skirt of a screw type lid 6. Said body 5 and lid 6 are of somesuitable water proof material preferably hard rubber or some other suitable material.
Upon the inner side of the lid 6 is a mirror 7 and a comb 8 which is necessarily of arcuate formation as more clearly disclosed in Figure 2.
Disposed within the body f the case is a substantially rectangular shaped cigarette package receptacle 8, the opposite side walls of which are formed with vertical pockets 99 preferably for the reception of matches,
the upper end of the receptacle being open and provided with a hinged lid 10, the ends of which extend over the upper open ends the lid 6 may be disposed thereon.
bather.
of said match compartments as clearly disclosed in Figure 8.
The lower ends of the compartments 99 terminate short of the bottom wall of the receptacle '8 while the length of the receptacle is such as to permit the same to be disposed entirely Within the case body so that The rim of the case body 5 is of plane formation directly beneath the cigarette receptacle as indicated by the reference character 11 in Fig ure 3 so as to permit the bottom wall of the receptacle torest flush thereon, the front side of this plane area being beveled so as to provide an inclined surface 12 at the open side of the body, Figure 1. The bottom wall of the cigarette packagereceptacle 8 is formed adjacent opposite ends thereof with depending ears 1313 that are arranged within notches that are formed in the plane area of the body rim and through registering openings in which passes a pivot ing the body directly beneath the surface of the plane area of the rim in order that the receptacle may be swung outwardly of'the body to the dotted line position disclosed in Figure 1, thus affording access to the pin 14 embedded within the material formsuit may be disposed theretthrough, thus supporting the case upon the body of the Other means may however be provided for facilitating the attachment of the case to the suit of the bather, the means disclosed merely serving to generally illustrate the fact that the case is to be attached directly to the suit of the bather, and this in such a manner as to maintain the cigarette and match receptacle in generally vertical position when so attached. Furthermore, the body 5 and lid 6 may be interconnected by a chain length 16 for preventing the loss of the lid when detached from the body of the case.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, simple, and efficient form of bathers cigarette case that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated, and even though I have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detail structural elements it is neverthe less to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without effecting the spirit and. scope of the appendedciaiin.
Having thus described the invention, What I claim as new and desire tosecu-re by Letters Patent is z In a structure of the class described, an outer casingcomprising EL bQllQ W body open on one side, a removable cover -for said open 10 side, a second easing located Within said THOMAS B. MCDONALD.
