IVIINNON BUCKET.
Application filed December 9, 1921. Serial No. 521,162.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that I, JAMns A. VAN FELT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morrilton, in the county of Conway and State of Arkansas, have invented anew and useful Minnow Bucket, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to minnow buckets, the primary object of the invention being to provide means to raise the minnows out of the water of the bucket, to permit the user to select a minnow.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for retaining the minnows in a position above the surface of the water, for a predetermined period.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means to support the inner sec tion of the bucket should it be desired to remove the same.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the inven tion.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a minnow bucket constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 8 is a top plan view of the bucket.
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of the inner removable section.
Figure 5 is a detail view of one of the tubes.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the bucket embodies an outer section 5 and an inner section 6, the inner section being of a diameter to provide a space between the wall thereof and the inner wall of the outer section 5.
The inner section 6 has its wall perforated to permit water contained in the outer section to pass into the inner section when the inner section is lowered into the outer section.
A flange indicated at 7 is formed at the upper end of the inner section 6 and is de signed to cooperate with the upper edge of the outer section 5 to support the inner sec tion in proper relation with the walls of the outer section. I
Forming a part of the inner section 6 is a perforated bottom 8 which 'is spaced from the lower edge of the inner section to provide a compartment within the bot tom 9 of the outer section, the compartment being for the purpose of accommodating the supporting prongs 10 which are hingedly connected to the inner section as at 11, and as clearly shown by Figure 4 of the drawmg.
Having connection with the bottom 8 of the inner section is a vertically disposed central tube 12 which is of a length to extend to a point in a plane equal with the upper edge of the outer section. Extending laterally from the tube 12 and disposed at a point adjacent to the upper end thereof, is a pin 13 that rides in the slot 14 formed longitudinally of the tubular member 15 that is carried by the movable tray 16, that is mounted within the inner section.
Communicating with the slot 14, are the lateral slots 17 and 18 adapted to accommodate the pin 13 when it is desired to lock the tray 16 in either its upper or lower positions.
This tray 16 contains the minnows held in the bucket and in order that the water within the bucket may pass into the tray, the tray is provided with perforations. The inner section is provided with a hinged cover indicated at 19, which is also provided with perforations adapted to admit air to the inner casing. In order that the cover may be held tight, the spring arm 20 is secured to the upper surface of the flange 7 and overlies a portion of the cover 13, it
being understood that the spring arm may be moved laterally to disengage the cover, and permit the same to be raised.
Suitable bails indicated at 21 are provided by means of which the bucket may be moved from place to place by the user.
From the foregoing it will be seen that if it is desired to remove a minnow from the bucket, the tray 16 is moved upwardly to a position in proximity to the upper end of the bucket, whereupon the water will drain from the tray leaving the fish dry. It follows that the minnows may be easily selected and the tray returned to its normal position.
If it is desired to remove the inner section,
the supporting prongs 10 may be hinged outwardly, whereupon they may be forced into the ground surface to insure the inner section being supported in an upright position.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is 1. A minnow bucket including an outer section and an inner perforated section, a Vertical tubular member carried by the inner section, a laterally extending pin carried bythe tubular member, a tray carrying a tubular member adapted to move vertically within the inner section, to move the contents of the inner section to a position adjacent to the upper end of the bucket, the tubular member of the tray being positioned over the tubular member of the inner section.
2. A minnow bucket including an outer section and an inner perforated section supported within the outer section, a tubular member carried by the inner section, a vertically movable tray supported within the inner section and having a tubular member positioned over the first mentioned tubular member, a pin carried by the first mentioned tubular member and adapted to move with a slot in the second mentioned tubular member to lock the tray in a position adjacent to the upper end of the bucket, and a cover for the inner section.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto atfiXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
