In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a wash basket that is specifically adapted to be employed in conjunction with washing machines, wherein'the clothcs passing from the wringers will be effectively caught within the basket, and thereby overcome the necessity of the operator of the machine having to stretch around the wringer for withdrawing the clothes therefrom and then dropping the same into an ordinary wash basket usually placed upon the floor beneath the machine.

The primary object of this invention is to provide such a wash basket wherein means is provided for attaching the same to the machine and at a point beneath the Wringer thereof.

Yet another object is to provide a wash basket for use in conjunction with washing machines that is extremely simple of construction, and one that may be positioned upon or removed from the machine in a simple and expeditious manner.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the follow'ng detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my improved wash basket.

Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.

Figure 4 is a detail fragmentary cross section of the basket, showing more clearly the hook elements carried thereby for engagement over the side of the washing machine.

ure 4, showing slightly modified forms of hook elements wherein the basket may be employed in conjunction with different types of washing machines.

First, having reference to Figures 1 to 4 inclusive, my novel basket includes a re ceptacle 5, preferably of Zinc and'substantially square-shape' in plan as shown in Fig. 2. Thebottom wall. of the receptacle 5 is formed with perforations 6, wherein the water from the clothes may drain there through, this bottom wall of the receptacle being supported above the ground surface by a suitable number of legs 7.

Surrounding the upper marginal edge of the receptacle is a band 8, preferably of sheet iron and secured thereto in any manner desirable.

Fastened upon the opposite ends of the receptacle 5 through the medium of rivers or the like are lifting and carrying handles 9, while upon the inner wall of the receptacle, and at the upper end thereof are hook elements 10, which as more clearly shown in Figure 4 embody pendent legs 11 that are engaged within the receptacle and secured thereto by the rivets as shown. These hook elements also include a forwardly projecting portion 12, a pendent portion 13 and inwardly extending lug 14, it being noted in this connection, that the baskets carrying this type of hook are to be associated with washing machines, wherein the upper edges thereof are formed with outwardly extending flanges, beneath which are to be engaged said lugs 14.

One side of the receptacle 5 may be and preferably is provided with a pocket 15 for the carrying of wash pins and clothes lines.

In Figure 5, there is shown awash basket including areceptacle 5, also of zinc, and being exactly similar of construction with the form of wash basket as previously described with the exception of the inner wall thereof is concaved for permitting the same to be employed in conjunction with washing machines, wherein the receptacles thereof are of the circular type.

In Figure 6, there is shown a slightly modified form of hook 10, whereby the basket may be supported slightly outwardly of the machine, and in this instance, the same includes a downwardly extending portion 11 to be secured within the receptacle, a relatively outwardly extending portion 12', a pendent portion 13 and an inwardly extending lug 14. The outwardly extend ing portion 12 is formed adjacent its hook, and with a pendent leg 16, it being of course understood that the edge of the washing machine is to be received within the said leg 16 and the portion 13 of the hook. In Figure 7, there is shown a still further form of hook that merely embodies an inverted U- ,shaped bracket 17 the inner leg thereof extending within the receptacle, and secured thereto by rivets or the like.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, anddesire to secure by Let- A clothes basket adapted for connection to a washing machine, said basket being imperforate with the exception of a plurality of holes which are formed in the bottom thereof to permit fluid to drain therethrough, a plurality of supporting legs attached to said bottom to space the same above a support upon which'the basket is placed, an auxiliary receptacle carried by and disposed on theiexterior of'said' basket for receptionlof clothes pins and the like, carrying handles attached to said basket, and hooked attaching brackets carried by the basket and adapted to take over one wall of the tub of a washing machine.
