Q Fin PATENT OFFICE.
ANTONIO T. 'IIMOSCI, OF SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA.
WASI-IBOILER.
Application filed December 5, 1919.
To aZZ whom. it may conccm:
Be it known that L-AN'roNio T. Tnrosor, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of San Jose, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \Vashboilers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in wash boilers, and has for its object to provide means in connection with wash boilers of usual construction, for supporting the garments to be washed above the bottom of the boiler, the support being arranged in such manner that the garments will be held loosely on the said support, and in such manner that the cleansing fluid may flow inward with respect to the support and garments.
In the drawings: I
Figure 1 is a side view of a boiler constructed in accordance with the invention, and with parts in section.
F ig. 2 is a top plan view of the boiler with the top removed,
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section at the bottom of the boiler.
In the present embodiment of the invention, the improved boiler comprises a body 1. elliptical in horizontal cross section, having the usual bottom 2. and a cover 8, which is provided with a handle at for convenience in handling the cover; The body has handles 5, and the improvement consists in providing a false bottom or support 6 for the garments, which is held in spaced relation with respect to the bottom.
This false bottom as shown is of elliptical shape to fit within the boiler body. and it is provided at its center with a longitudinally extending slot or passage 7, and the said false bottom slopes or inclines from its upper edges inwardly to the slot or passage.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 20, 1920. Serial No. 342,695.
The material of the support or false bottom 1s corrugated, the ribs and grooves formed by the corrugations running toward the slot or passage. The false bottom is supported by means of rivets S. These riv ets are connected at their upper ends to the support, and at their lower ends they have stops or collars 9 for engaging the bottom 2 of the boiler. The lower ends of the rivets are headed as shown.
In use, the clothing to be washed is placed upon the false bottom, and the boiler is filled to the desired extent with water, laden with a detergent. When now the boiler is heated, the water will rise through the slot or passage 7, and upwardly through the garments. That water adjacent to the walls of the boiler Will 0001 more quickly than that at the center, and this water will pass downward, to the false bottom, and will flow inward by the corrugations to the slot or passage. Thus a continuous circulation of heated water is provided for, and there will be av saving in fuel, and a quicker completion of the washing operation. The improved support which may be of any desired material may be applied to existing boilers without difliculty.
I claim:
A wash boiler having rigidly held within the same a false bottom for supporting the clothes to be washed above the bottom of the boiler, said bottom being of imperforate material and shaped to fit within the boiler and having a relatively narrow and relatively long slot at the center of the boiler extend ing from near one end of the boiler to near the other, said bottom having alternating ribs and grooves extending from the outer edges thereof inwardly toward the slot and inclining downwardly from its peripheral edge toward the slot.
