CHARLES SCHMISSEUR, OF BELLEVILLE, ILLINOIS.
WASH-BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 450,845, dated April 21, 1891.
Application filed January 3, 1891. Serial No. 376,689. (No model.)
To aZZ whont it may concern:
Be it known that L'CHARLES SCHMISSEUR, a resident of Belleville, in the county of St. Clair and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cone Wash-Boilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in washingmachines of the class known as boiler washers, and the invention consists in certain details in'the construct-ion and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter ex plained.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the ordinary form of washer-boiler having my lmproved washer arranged therein. Fig. 2 is a trans verse section, and Fig. 3 is a bottom view, of the washer, showing the cones secured to the bottom of the perforated plate and the pipes forming the connection between the same.
The plate A, which forms the support for the clothes, is made of any material having its face fluted or oorrugated,as shown at Aiand with an outline conforming in shape to the boiler or receptacle with which it is to be used, and secured to the edge of this plate is a flange B, to rest upon the rim of the boilerbottom, and of such size as to leave a space between its outer wall and the wall of the boiler. The plate A is provided with per forations a in the alternate corrugations. and the flange is also provided with perforations l9, hereinafter referred to. The plate A has secured to and projecting thereof centrally a perforated cone C, which extends up above the upper face thereof, and has connected to an extension thereof a pipe D, having an elbow at its upper end which opens out into the boiler. The lower edge of this cone extends down below the edge of the flange, and of such length as to rest upon the projecting bottom of the boiler, which fits the pot-holes, and arranged in linewith the central. cone upon each side are perforated cones C C having the upper ends closed and communieating with the central cone through pipes E. The lower edges of these cones also rest upon the bottom of the boiler, as shown.
The operation of the device is as follows: The clothes being placed in the boiler rest upon the corrugated perforated plate, when the suds are filled in the boiler to a proper height. As the water begins to boil, it passes up through the central pipe and is discharged therefrom onto the clothes, removing the dirt therefrom. As the water boils up through the perforated plate, it carries the dirt removed from the clothes into the alternate corrugations, where it remains, by which means the cones with whiclrthe central pipe communicates are supplied with clean soapsuds bysuction through the perforated flange of the plate and the water cleansed for reaction over the clothes.
The device is shown as constructed for use with the ordinary form of oblong boiler; but the form may be changed to suit the various forms of boiler, as will be readily understood.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a boiler washer, the corrugated perforated plate and the cones connected thereto, each communicating with the other and with a central pipe leading to and opening out into the boiler or casing, substantially as set forth.
2. In a boiler washer, the corrugated perforated plate provided with the perforated flange, a series of perforated cones connected to the lower portion of the corrugated plate, with communicating passage-ways between them, and a central pipe communicating with the central cone and with the boiler or casing, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I do claim the foregoing as my own I hereby affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHAS. SCHMISSEUR.
