UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALAN B. DETTSOH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO DEITSCH BROTHERS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
TRAVELING CASE.
Application filed December 31, 1925. Serial No. 78,543.
The object of the invention is to provide a traveling case of such character that the cover member is formed as a part of what is known as the base wall of the case when the latter is in upright position with the handle uppermost, and the base wall is hinged to lie in horizontal position and sup-' posed when the cover is raised so as to be separately visible and capable of ready selection, removal and replacement.
The invention will be understood by refer ence to the accompanying drawings, 1n which I Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device with the cover partly raised;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the side' with the cover completely raised;
Figure 3 is a transverse section of they device;
Figure 4 is a front elevation;
Figure 5 is a transverse section through a modified form of the device showing in dotted lines the cover member "in raised position.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive comprises a case A of general rectangular structure having a rear wall 1 and providing a main carrying space which is entirely unobstructed. The side wall 2 of the case is extended rearwardly of wall 1. The case may be constructed in accordance with the usual practice and with a suitable frame cover with a durable material such as leather. It is provided with locks 3 and complementary lock members 4. The top wall 6 of the case is provided with a handle 5.
The end Walls 6 of the case are continued rearwardly of wall l so as to form a triangu lar extension, the apex of which is at the top of the case when the latter is horizontally supported. To the rearward extension of wall 2 is hinged the base member 7 of the case which, in this embodiment, is formed integrally with the cover member 8. Each end wall of the base member 7 is formed with a triangle so as to be complementary with the like wall extension of the main case.
The base member may be provided with suitable metal protection-studs 9, as customary.
Upon the inner wall of the base member are held, by suitable means, such as the straps 10, a series of toilet articles some of which may be contained in boxes 11. The extension wall 2 likewise may be utilized to hold toilet articles.
When the case is open to the position shown in Figure 2, the toilet articles are exposed for ready selection, removal and replacement, and the base member rigidly supports the cover in such position that a mirror held thereby, such as the mirror 12, is
exposed for convenient use. The case thus may be placed upon a table and used as a toilet stand. I
It will be noted that the construction of the case is such that only the exact space required for the various toilet articles is taken up and that the length of the rearward extension of wall 2 may be varied in accordance with the space required.
In the modification illustrated in Figure 5, the side wall of the case extends to a line vertically meeting the rear end of the Wall 2. The base member is provided With flaps indicated at b, Which'fla-ps lie within adjacent side Walls of the main body of the case when the latter is in closed position. The case embodies the same principle as that illustrated in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive and its operation is exactly the same. It will be understood that various modifications may be made in the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawings without departing from the spirit of the invention, What I claim and desire to secure having top and bottom Walls, a side Wall end by Letters Patent being as follows end Walls, the last named bottom Wall being A traveling case comprising a main memenlarged and the end Walls being enlarged her having a bottom wall, a top Wall, end at their base to form substantially triangu- Walls and a rigid side Wall extending beyond lat extensions.
the bottom Wall, that portion of each end In testimony whereof, I have signed my well below the bottom Wall being of subname to this specification.
stantially triangular form, a cover member ALAN B. DEITSCH.
