To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN HERETYK, subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing at Fulton, in the county of ()swego and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Gigarette- Boxes and Match-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combined cigarette box and match holder.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a cigarette box with a match inclosing flap automatically operable for releasing the matches upon an opening of the box, the same being closed when the box is in its closed position.
A further object is to provide a match inclosure upon one side of a box automatically operable upon opening and closing the box, and having a match striking surface upon its outer side.
A still further object is to provide a cigarette holder slidable within a cover and with a lid hinged to the cover and having a flexible connection with the said holder whereby the lid is automatically opened and closed upon the actuation of said holder relatively to the cover.
With the above general objects in View and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and set forth in the appended claim.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central sectional view thereof with the box in its open position. Fig. 3 is a similar sectional view with the device closed, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the box'tray portion and th'e actuating connector mounted thereon.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, a cigarettebox of substantially the usua form is provided consisting of the sliding h lder or tray 10 mounted within the casing or cover 11, the tray having the usual long rear top flap 12 and the short front flap 13.
Amatch holder is provided upon the box consisting of a base strip 14 upon which the match strip 15 is secured and is provided w1th a front flange 16, while a lid 17 hinged to the rear edge of the strip 14 is adapted to close over the match strip and within the flange 16. A perforation 18 is provided substantally centrally through the strip 14: and the upper wall of the casing 11 and is adapted for the sliding reception of a connector 19 positioned therethrough. The said connector 19 at one end thereof as 20 is secured to the upper rear edge of the tray 10 to the flap 12 thereof, while the opposite end of the connector as at 21 is secured substantially centrally to the inner lower face of the lid 17 By this arrangement it will be evident, that when the cigarette box is in its open position as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the lid 17 will likewise be open, but upon an inward closing movement of the tray, the connector will likewise be drawn inwardly and rearwardly, thus forcing the lid 17 closed and overlying the matches and within the flange 16 as illustrated in \Fig. 3. An outward opening movement imparted to the tray 10 as when it is desired to remove one of the cigarettes 22 from the box, will force outwardly and upwardly the connector 19, thus opening the lid 17 so that a match may be removed from the strip and may be then lighted by striking the same upon the roughened striking surface 23 upon the outer side of the strip 17. h
While the forms of the invention herein shown and described are what are believed to be the preferred embodiments thereof, minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the claim.
What ll claim as new is A device of the class described comprising in combination with a box casing and a slidable container tray therein, a match holder consisting of a base strip flatly secured to the outer side of the, upper wall of the casing, a lid hingedly secured to the rear edge of said strip, a front marginal flange upon roughened match striking surface upon its 1 outer side.
