FIG. 1
FIG. 5.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.ioznr GOLONKA, or DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
TOBACCO-BOX.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Joznr GOLONKA, a citizen of Poland, residing atDetroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Boxes, of which the following is a specification. I
The primary object of the invention is the A further object of the invention is'to provide a tobacco holder with means for holding abox of matches normally inclosed Within the device ready for dispensing the matches whenever desired for lighting the same upon the striking surface of the match box.
With these general objects in view, the invention consists of the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the invention,
Fig. 2 is side thereof,
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken upon line III-III of Fig. 1,
Fig. 1 is a transverse sectional view of the device taken upon line IVIV of Fig. 1,
Fig. 5 isv a bottom plan view thereof, and
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the slide or door for the match box receptacle.
My invention being in the nature of a holder for tobacco and matches, broadly consists of a casing 10 having a transverse partition 11 dividing the same into a tobacco compartment 12 and amatch compartment 13, the former being normally closed by a hinged cap 14 and the latter by a slide or door 15.
The cap 14: is connected by a hinge 16 with the side of the casing 10 whereby toba'cco 17 is readily supplied in the compartment 12 and removed therefrom for smoking. The slide is arcuate in cross section conforming to the curvature of the casing 10 and has inwardly projecting flanges 18 positioned over guide ribs 19 upon the a-similar View of an adjacent Specification of Letters Patent.

casing adjacent the opposite sides of the opening or doorway 20 for the compartment 13.
A stop lug 21 carried by the casing 10 above the door opening 20 projects through a central longitudinal slot 22 in the slide 15 for limiting the openin movement of the slide preventing the anges 18 from being accidentally removed from the ribs 19.
The lug 20 has a head overlying the slot 22 so that said lug also acts as a guide for the slide 15, the latter when in its closed position being seated. upon the outer edge or bead 23 of the casing bottom 24'.
The usual small match box 25 is slidably positioned within the compartment 13 with one end of the box severed or removed so that the matches 26 within thebox 25 are readily accessible upon opening the slide 15. The match striking surface 27 of the box 25 is exposed through an opening 28 in the casing bottom 24 for use in striking matches thereon whether the slide 15 is open or closed.
A roll 29 at the top of the slide 15 affords a handle for grasping in moving the slide relatively of the door opening 20 of the casing 10 and a projection 30, such as a ring, upon the casing 10 above the door opening is adapted for engagement by narrow resilient portions or strips 31 at the top of the slide 15 formed by providing slits 32 in the top portion of the slide and slightly bending the strips 31 inwardly toward the side of the casing 10. lVhen the slide 15 is in its closed position, the strips 31 will pass over the projection thereby retaining the slide closed until manually forced to its open position by sliding the same toward the cap 14. A serviceable holder for tobacco and matches is provided in which the matches are readily renewable by inserting a new box of matches whenever the supply is exhausted while the tobacco 17 is normally held inclosed within the casing 10 by the cap 1 1 which tightly fits the open end of the compartment 12. While the form of the invention herein set forth is believed preferable, it will be understood that changes therein may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
lVhat is claimed as new is:
1. A holder divided into compartments with an opening for one compartment at the end of the casing and for the other compartment at the side thereof, a sliding 010- sure for the side opening having a rolled over handle portion slittednpon its inner face providing resilient strips, a projection upon the'casing above the side opening;
adapted for engagement by said strips when the slide is closed, the slide having a longitudina'lslot therein, aheaded stop lug upon the casing above theside opening positioned through said slide and guide members for the slide at the oppositesides of said side opening.
2. A holder divided into compartments lwith an opening for one compartment at the end of the easing'and forthe other com-' partmenti'atthe side thereof, a sliding closure forthe side opening having a rolled I over handle portion slitted .upon its inner face providing-resilient strips, a projection upon the casing above the side opening adapted for engagement by'said strlps vwhen the slide is closed, the slide having a longltudinal slot therein, a headed stop lug upon I "the easing above the side opening positioned i through said slide, guide; members for the slide at the opposite sidesof said opening,
theend of the casing opposite said open end thereof having a slot therein, the compart- *ment with the side opening'being adapted 1,seo,927. it .i
for the reception of a matchbox having a match striking surface exposed for use 7 through said slot when the device is assembled for'use and a .elosure cap for'the open end of the casing. I
' 3. A holder comprising a casing having. a.
side opening with the adjacent end of the casing provided with a longitudinal slot, a
headed stop lug upon the casing above said opening, an areuatedoor "for the opening substantiallyconformingto the curvature of r the adjacent portion of the casing slidably of resilient niaterial' with an uppenroiled oven portion forming a handle and further having inwardly bentstrip port ons, a pro 'eotion' moon the casin 4 above said o -enin i 2'1 adapted for engagementwith said strippertions during the (dosingot the door,a match box positionedin saideasing through said side opening and a striking surface upon the box inwardlyvo'f the said slot.
