G. GRANT. SMOKBRS COMBINATION CASE.
No. 496,973. Patented May 9, 1893.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE GRANT, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
SMOKERS COMBINATION-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 496,973, dated May 9, 1893."
Application tiledJ'une 13, 1891. SerialNo. 396,098. (No model.) Patented in England January 23, 1891, No. 1,241.
.T0 a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE GRANT, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Battersea, London, in the county of Surrey, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Smokers Combination- Oases, of which the following is a specification.
The invention has been patented in Great Britain, No. 1,241, dated January 23, 1891.
Myinvention is designed to provide smokers and tobacco users with a combination case capable of holding in its va rious compartments the necessary materials used by such persons.
In the drawings: Figure l is a perspective view of one form of the case. Fig. 2, is a sectional View of the same. Fig. 3, is a view of a modification. Fig. 4, is a sectional view of the same.
The case shown in Fig. l, is composed of the main partf, and the lid e, hinged together at the points h. The main part is divided into two compartments a, c, by the vertical partition wall q, which extends along near the inner edge of the main part to the point Z, and then is turned laterally, to connect with the side of the case, thus forming'an elongated compartment c, connecting with the enlarged portion c', the former being adapted to receive the stem of the pipe, and the latter the bowl. A horizontal partition y, preferably extends laterally across one end of the body portion f, and the end of the casing is left open here to receive a small match drawer g, which slides in below the partition y. When no drawer is used, the partition y, is omitted. The compartment a is intended for tobacco.
The lid e, has a plate a', extending over its lower side, but not entirely to the end of the lid, so that a space d, is left, similar to the compartment c', which receives the bowl of the pipe. The space a above the partition a', or between it and the top of the lid, may contain cigars, and if desired the end of the lid may be left open also, to receive a match drawer. Access may be had to the space ct either through the space CZ` at the end thereof or through the open end, when. the match drawer is removed.
In Figs. 8 and 4. the two parts are connected bythe hinge h3, and this arrangement includes the features of the partition a', carried by the lid and the compartment c c', in the body porp tion; and in addition to these features, asupplemental cover or lid m is provided in the top of the cover portion e, by which access is had to the space between the partition a and the top of the lid, marked a. A slit is provided in this form to receive the striker. This form may also have the drawers if desired.
I claim as my inventionl. A smokers case, consisting of the body part f having a partition q, extending longitudinally of the case and laterally thereof near one end forming the compartments c, c', and the lid hinged to the body part and l1aving the partition a extending across it and reaching to near one end, leaving a space cl, and the drawer arranged in the end of the case, substantially as described.
2. A smokers case, consisting of the body part f, having the compartments c, c for the pipe, the lid having a partition a', and forming the compartment a, and the supplemental lid in the top of the main lid, whereby access is had to the compartment a, substantially as described.
Signed at London, England, this 29th day of April, A. D. 1891.
GEORGE GRANT.
