Description
L. w. LAKL Improvement in Masons Hod-lron.v
Patented April 23, 1872.
UNrrRn S'rarns ATENE LABAN W. LAKE, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,061, dated April 23, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LABAN W. LAKE, of the city and county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bod-Irons, of which the following is a specication:
In the drawing, Figure l is a perspective drawing, showing the iron attached to a hod. Fig. 2 represents the iron detached from the hod.
My invention relates to an iron for a masons hod, which is formed of two or more divergent arms which t over each side of the hod, and are curved or bent at their upper ends to iit over the upper edges of the hod. At the angle formed by these arms is afemale screw, which receives a screw attached to the handle, which latter screw presses against a plate attached to the bottom of the hod, and, in combination with the curves on the upper ends ofthe arms, holds the iron in place.
In the drawing, A represents the iron with its divergent arms O C curved at their upper ends, as shown, Fig. l. a represents the female screw, which receives thc screw S attached to the handle. c represents the plate, which is secured to the bottom of the hod at any suitable point, and against which the male screw S presses when the iron is applied to the hod H. X represents the pad, which is common to all hods. This iron can be removed at any time by turning the screw S away from the plate c, when the iron will slip over the end of the hod. This iron can be adjusted to any point on the hod, so as to adapt it to the load to be carried.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Y l. A hed-iron, having two or more arms, O C, curved at their upper ends, and the female screw at a., in combination with the male screw S, as shown, and operating substantially as described.
2. The combination and arrangement of the plate e and male screw S, as shown, and for the purpose as described.
LABAN W. LAKE. a Witnesses:
HENRY MARSH, Jr., HENRY MARSH.
ERICE.,
