Description
SAMUEL REYNOLDS.
Snap Hook.
No. 124,628. Patented Marchiz, 1872.,
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-SNAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,628, dated March l2, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL REYNoLDs, of Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Harness-Snaps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the saine, reference being had to the annexed drawing making part of this specification, and to the letters and ligures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a face view of snap with ring attached. Fig. 2 is an opposite face view of snap without ring. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through snap and ring.
This invention relates to the improved construction of harness-snaps; and consists in the peculiar formation of the shank and the application of aslotted tumbler to hold the' harness-ring, and a metallic spring to keep said tumbler in place.
In the drawing, A shows a snap, provided with a hook, a, at one end, and an eye, a', at the other end. A slot, B, is cut lengthwise in said snap from the base of the hook nearly into the eye, and a ilattened spring, B', placed therein, and secured at one end to the snap by a pin, b. C represents a tumbler, consisting of a metallic block, with rounded lugs c projecting from either side to iit in the lateral recesses c', and retained in position by the pressthe ring toward the mouth of the hook. The
bottom of the tumbler has its corners rounded ofi' so as to turn more easily. E is a lug formed on the snap-shank to guide the ring D.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, irs- The herein-described harness-snap, consisting of the shank A, with slot B and recesses c', hook a, spring B', eye a', tumbler C with lugs c, and recesses c, when all the parts are constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL REYNOLDS. Witnesses:
H. W. MINNEMEYER, S. C. REYNOLDS.
