Description

(No Model.)
s. G. FRANCIS. DEVIGEFOR CARRYING BARRELS UPSTAIRS.
No. 456,559. Patented July 28, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SYLVESTER G. FRANCIS, OF NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
DEVICE FOR CARRYING BARRELS UPSTAIRS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 456,559, dated July 28,1891.
Application filed June 4. 1891. Serial No. 395,012. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SYLvEsTER G. FRANCIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Device for Carrying a Barrel Upstairs, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a device by means of which a barrel can be carried upstairs by two persons easily and safely.
To this end my invention consists inthe device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 represents a view of a barrel with my device attached in position for use. Fig. 2 represents a view in perspective of my device.
Similar letters referto similar parts throughout the several views.
a represents a barrel, and 19 represents my device for carrying the same, consisting of parallel bars of iron, having the cross-bars e as a hand-hold and the cross-bar f as a tie and brace. The lower end of the parallel bars are bent to form hooks (Z d, adapted to catchunder the chine of the barrel. Just above the tie or brace f the bars are bent outwardly at an angle, in order to carry the hand-hold 6 free from the barrel, and are provided with the straps c 0, adapted to buckle around the upper portion of the barrel and hold the parallel bars and the tie f firmly against its side.
The operation of the device is shown in Fig. 1, one person going before and lifting by the hand-hold eand the other'person going in the rear of the barrel and lifting by the under chine.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A device for carrying abarrel upstairs, consisting of parallel bars provided with the hooks d, tie f, hand-hold e, and strap a, as and for the purpose shown and described.
