PHILIP CARPELES, OF MILNVAUKEE, VISOONSIN.
HAN D-STRAP FOR TRUNKS.
lSPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,566, dated December 3, 1889.
Application filed July 24, 1889.
To all whom, it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, PHILIP CARPELES, of Milwaukee, in the countyT of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand- Straps for Trunks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention krelates to hand-straps and their attachment to trunks, ne., and will be fully described hereinafter.

that is formed on the under side of the clamp and enters slot b, so that the strain incidental to handling the trunk is all brought on the tongue a, which protects the strap and prevents the lug dfrom tearing it, while the slots permit of the usual sliding motion of the ends of the straps that allow the strap to lie flat against the body of the trunk when not in use.
My device is simple and inexpensive and accomplishes a very useful object.
Having thus full57 described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a slotted hand-strap, of 11e-enforces each having a tongue entering the adjacent slot of the strap, and a clamp for each end of the strap having a lug for entering said slot to secure the strap in place.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
