UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE SMITH, OF OASTILE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BAIL-EARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 15l,l(i8, dated May 19, 1874; application filed october 11,1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE SMITH, of Oastile, in the county of. Vyoming and State of New York, have invented a new and Valuable Improvement in Handle-Clips; and I do hereby decla-re that the following' is a full, clear, and exact "description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part oi' this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation ot' a front viewot1 my handle-clip. Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view.
This invention has relation to handle-clips for buckets and other vessels. It consists in two clip-plates, having perforated ears for receiving the ends of a handle, in combination with a thin and narrow connecting-bar, which will bend and allow the device to be adjusted closely upon lat or concave surfaces.
The following' is a description of my im provements In the annexed drawings, A A represent twoclip-plates, which are connected tegtlien by means of a narrow and thin bar, B. The plates A A, which are much broader than the bar B, are perforated to receive the screws which secure the device to a tub or box, and on these plates ears a a and lugs g g are formed. The ears a a are perforated to receive through theln the hooked ends c c of the handle C, and the lugs g g are so arranged that when the handle hangs freely, as shown in Fig. 2, they will hold the wooden portion thereof free from the side of the bucket in a position to be conveniently grasped in the hand.
The handle clip herein described will be made of malleable iron, and cast in one piece, andthe connecting bar or strip B should be sufficiently thin to be bent and fitted snugly to the sides of buckets, tubs, or other vessels of various sizes and shapes.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure hy Letters Patent, is
The combination of a flexible connectingstrip, B, with the ear-plates A, the strip B being thinner and narrower than these plates, for `the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
Witnesses: GEORGE SMITH.
ANsoN HowARD, I. XV. TRUE.
