WITNESSES: Mam/ UNITED STATES PATENT tries.
DAVID BLOCK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HANDLE FOR SHEET-METAL VESSELS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 531,766, dated January 1, 1895.
Application filed March 22, 1893. Serial No. 467,191. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, DAVID BLOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handles for Sheet-Metal Vessels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved handle for sheet metal vessels, so that not only the heating of the handle is prevented, but also a strong as well as a simple and cheap construction of the handle obtained; and the invention consists of a handle for sheet-metal vessels, which comprises a main-portion and end-portions or terminals, all having central bores or perforations and a headed fastening pin of square cross section that is inserted through the bores of the terminals and mainportion and through the square holes of the bracket straps, by which the handle is connected to the body of the sheet metal vessel.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side-elevation of a sheet metal vessel, with my improved handle. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the handle drawn on a larger scale, and Figs. 3 and 4 are horizontal sections respectively on lines 3 3, and 4 4, of Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a sheet metal vessel and B two sheet metal straps or brackets that are riveted to the vessel and provided with square holes a for attaching the handle.
The handle 0 is composed of three parts: a main-portion C, and two end-portions or terminals said main-portion and terminals being provided with round bores or apertures through which the fastening pins D pass by which the main-portion and terminals of the handle are connected to the bracket straps B B.
The fastening pins D are of square cross section and provided with a head D at one end, said pin being driven through the bores or perforations of one terminal and one half of the main-portion, as shown clearly in Fig. 2. The pins fit into the hole in the bracket strap B and prevent the turning of any portion of the handle on its axis or the turning of the handle on the straps B, so that a very strong and firm handle construction is obtained, which can be applied to the vessels after the same are finished by enameling or otherwise.
The handle can be made of wood or other suitable material, is a perfect non-conductor of heat and can be made in any form suitable to the style of the vessel.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with a sheet metal vessel having bracket-straps, attached to the same, said straps having square holes, of a bandle composed of a main-portion interposed between the straps and end-portions or terminals, a headed fastening pin of square cross section driven through terminals of the bracket-straps into the main-portion, so as to retain the sections of the handles firmly in position, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myinvention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVID BLOCK.
