CRAB-NET FRAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 31, 1905.
Application filed April 15, 1905. Serial No. 255,726.
To aid whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsAAo FRANKLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Crab-Net Frames, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in crab-nets, and has in view more especially the frame of the net and means for attaching the frame to the handle; and it consists in a cone shaped hollow head cast of suitable metal with a wedge extending diagonally across it to assist in holding it securely to the end of'the handle, the head having oppo sitely extending arms to receive a hoop which su ports the net, and in'certain additional eatures of construction, which will be hereinafter described more in detail, and set forth in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved crabnet. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the head, and Fig. 3 is a section through the latter.
A represents a hollow cone-shaped head, cast preferably of malleable iron with an integra wedge 1 at itssmaller end, the head being adapted to be forced and held frictionally upon the end of the handle B and the wedge 1 to enter the split end of the handle, whereby to spread the latter to fill the head and increase the frictional en agement of the head upon the handle. rms
2 2 extend outwardly in opposite directions from the opposite sides of the head, being cast integral therewith. These arms are hollow and preferably slotted on their lower sides, as at 4 4, they being [adapted to receive the ends of the hoop 5, after which they are intended to be heated and pinched together to form a rigid joint or connection between the parts. This being accomplished, the parts may be galvanized to further strengthen the joints formed, as well as impart the desired finish.
The net 6 is attached to the hoop in any approved manner, this being no part of the present invention.
The handle is grasped in the hands in the usual manner in the use of the article and the net used as is customary. The special construction of the head affords a simple, inexpensive, and effectual means of connecting the arts and is of such a nature that the liab' ity of the parts to become detached is greatly lessened, if not altogether prevented.
Slight additional changes might be made in the form and arrangements of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth but,
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A crab-net comprising a head cast hollow and cone-shaped, said head open at both ends, a wedge formed integral with the head at one end for securing it to its handle, integral arms, and a hoop, the ends of which are adapted to be received in the arms, said arms having slots or sockets therein which are adapted to be pressed together to hold the hoop in place.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ISAAC FRANKLIN.
