' To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JosErH Karrns, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers Stretchers and Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved trousers stretcher and hanger and has as its primary object to provide a device of thi character, one of which may be readily inserted within each leg of a pair of trousers to yieldably engage the trousers legs substantially throughout their entire length, and wherein such engagement of the stretchers with the trouser will tend to properly crease the trousers, the device being so constructed as previously intimated, that the trousers may be suspended thereby.

The invention has as a further object to provide a device of this character which will be exceedingly simple in construction and so designed that it may be formed from a single length of suitable resilient wire, thus producing a very inexpensive and highly desirable article of manufacture.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character so constructed that the stretcher will be supported from a point substantially medially thereof,

and wherein the yieldable members employed for engaging the trousers, will also be connected at a point substantially medlally thereof, to the end that the full effect of the resilient action may be utilized.

Other and incidental objects will appear of the said members as the description proceeds and in the drawings' wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved trouser stretcher and hanger, Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof with the clamping sleeve removed, Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail view showing the mounting of one of the clamping sleeves, the said sleeve being shown in section, and Fig. 4 i a detail perspective view of one of the clamping sleeves.

As previously set forth, my improved trousers stretcher and hanger is preferably formed from a single length of suitable resilie'nt wire of proper gage, although, it is to be understood that any other suitable materlal may be employed, if desired. However, I have illustrated this construction in the drawings, which shall accordingly be described.

In general configuration, my improved device includes opposed parallelograms or trouser engaging members indicated as a whole in Fig. 1 of the drawings, by the numerals 10 and 11, the said parallelograms being arranged in a common plane substantially parallel to each other and being of a length preferably substantially equal to that of the legs of an ordinary pair of trousers, each of the members 10 and 11 being provided with straight sides and ends, there being a suspension device 13 extending medially between the confronting sides of the members 10 and 11 adjacent the upper ends thereof, which suspension device is preferably connected with the said members at a point substantially midway the ends thereof and at the point of connection between the said members.

To more particularly describe the construction, and referring now especially to Fig. 2 of the drawing, it will be observed that the length of wire forming the device is bent adjacent one terminal 14 thereof at substantially right angles, as shown at 15 and is thence rebent at substantially right angles as shown at 16, the portion 16 forming a part of the inner side of the parallelogram 11. At the upper terminal of the portion 16, the wire is again bent at substantially right angles as shown at 17 to form one end of the parallelogram, and is thence again bent at substantially right angles as at 18 to provide the outer side thereof. At the adjacent terminal of the portion 18 the wire is again bent as at 19 to form the other end of the parallelogram, similar to the portion 17 and is thence again bent at substantially right angles as at 20 to provide the other part of the inner side of the parallelogram similar to the portion 16. At the ad jacent terminal of the portion 20, the wire is again bent at substantially right angles as shown at 21 to cross the portion 15, it being observed that the portions 21 and 15' are disposed substantially in a common plane to form a connecting member as will presently appear, disposed substantially midway between the ends of the parallelograms 10 and 11. At the adjacent terminal of the portion 21, the wire is again bent at substantially right angles as at 22 to form a portion of the inner side of the parallelogram 10, similar to the portion 16 of the parallelogram 11 and is thence again bent at substantially right angle as at 23 to form one end of the said last mentioned parallelogram. At the adiacent end of the portion 23, the wire is again bent at substantially right angles as at 24, to form the outer side of the parallelogram 10 similar to the side 18 of the member 11, and is thence again bent as at 25 to form the ad acent end of the said parallelogram, similar to the end 23. At the adjacent terminal of the portion 25, the wire is again bent, at substantially right angles as at 26 to form a portion of the adjacent side of the member 11 similar to the portion 22, 1t belng observed that the portion 26 of the wire is extended to overlap the terminal lt thereof, and is thence continued as more particularly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings to overlap the adjacent inner extremity of the portion 22, as shown at 27 The portion 27 of the w1re is preferably of such length as to extend a slight dlstance upon one side of and above the member connecting the members 10 and 11, previously referred to, as shown in Fig. 1, and is thence bent obliquely, or is offset, as shown at 28 to extend to a point substantially midway between the portions 16 and 22 or in other words, substantially midway between the members 10 and 11. The adjacent extremity of the wire is thence continued along a line medially between the said members 10 and 11 to project beyond or above the adjacent ends 17 and 23 thereof, as shown at 29 and terminates, at its outer extremity, in a hook 30.

The portions 27, 28, 29, and 30, of the wire constitute the suspension device referred to and it will be observed that the hook 30 is preferably arranged a considerable distance above the adjacent terminals of the members 10 and 11 so that it may be easily connected with a suitable support.

As will be readily understood, the terminal 14 may be secured to the portion 26 by soldering, while if desired, the portions 15 and 21 may be similarly connected. However, in the drawings, I have shown the use of split clamping sleeves 31 shown in detail in Fig. 4: of the drawings. These sleeves 31 may be formed of any suitable material and one of the sleeves is arranged to embrace the terminal 14 and the adjacent portion 26 while the other is arranged to embrace the connecting member between the parallelograms l0 and 11 or the portions 15 and 21.

Preferably, the terminal 14 is provided with a plurality of notches as shown at 32 as is also the adjacent extremity of the portion 26 and engaging in said notches, are lugs 33 formed interiorly of each of the sleeves 31. Preferably the lugs 33 are struck from the sleeves and it will be observed that by this arrangement, the sleeve embracing the terminal 14 may be first The overlapping portions 15 and said notches, as shown in detail in Fig. 3 of V the drawings. It will be observed that the terminal 14: will be securely held in place while the members 10 and 11 will be firmly joined by the connecting member formed by the portions 15 and 21 and the sleeve embracing the said portions.

The major portion of the suspension device 13 as will be noted is disposed in the same plane with the members 10 and 11 and the said members are designed to be inserted within one leg of a pair of trousers to bear into the creases therein. Since the members 10 and 11 are formed from suitable resilient wire, they will yieldably engage the leg of the trousers to not only tend to properly form creases in the trousers, but to so stretch the trouser legs as to eliminate all wrinkles therein, it of course, being understood that one of my improved devices is to be inserted in each leg of the trousers, when the devices as well as the trousers may be readily suspended by the hooks 30. Attention is now particularly directed to the fact that the members 10 and 11 will be supported by the suspension device 13 from a point substantially midway the ends thereof so that the resilient action of the members 10 and 11 in engaging a trousers leg will be entirely unhampered, notwithstanding the fact that the said suspension device is formed by a continuation of one extremity of the length of wire forming the device.

It will therefore be seen that I provide an exceedingly simple and efiicient construction.
