My invention relates vto garment hangers and more particularly to combination hangers for coats and trousers which may be folded into a compact form and enclosed in a container, thus enabling the device to be conveniently carried in a small handbag or other luggage when travelling.

An object of the invention is to provide an article of this character which is constructed of a number of hingedly connected sections so that the same may be collapsed into a greatly reduced area, but which when arranged for use is strong and secure against accidental collapsing.

A further object is to provide a foldable garment hanger which is neat in appearance and inexpensive to manufacture Other objects and advantages will become apparent from the following detailed de scription when viewed together with the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout the specification, and in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation of my device with the sections in connected position.

Figure'2 is a similar view showing the manner in which the trouser hanger is disconnected in order to fold the entire hanger.

Figure 3 is a similar view in folded position and enclosed in a suitable container.

Figure 4 is a detail of the connection for the curved arms.

Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view taken on a line 5 5 of Figure 4 and Figure 6 is a detail, with parts in section, of the fastening device. Y

Referring now to the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred form of my invention, I provide a pair of compound curved arms 5, pivotally connected at their upper ends by a pin 6, which pin also carries a hook 7 constituting means by which the device is suspended.

The arms are preferably constructed of light rigid material, round in cross section and are formed into two sections of substantially equal length, the sections being pivotally connected by a pin 8. The ends of the sections at their juncture have portions cut away in a form of rabbeting, providing vertically Y disposed flat surfaces 9 and arranged in abutting relation, thus enabling the sections to fold verticallyrwith respect to each other.

The rabbeted portions extend longitudinally Y of the arms and gradually merge into the rounded formation thereof.

Each upper section of the arms has its flattened end provided withva shoulder 10 arranged at the bottom of such flattened surface, and in a position nearer the end thereof than the pin 8. The lower section of the arm has its flattened end reduced in width at its point of contact with the shoulder 10 to accommodate the. displacement/caused thereby and is arrangedto rest upon said shoulder, thus preventing downward movement of the lower sections 'of the arms beyond their aligned position It is obvious therefore that the lower arms may be folded upwardly, but are prevented from bending downwardly, thereby insuring a rigid support for the garment.

Sleeves 11 are slidably arranged upon the arms having slots 12 in which the heads of the pins 8 may be inserted so as'to maintain the sleeves in position as a cover for the arm connections. Y

' A horizontal bar is provided which is formed into end sections 14 and an intermediate section 15. The end sections are pivotally connected to the adjacent arms by pins 16 and the intermediate section is likewise and inclined upwardly from its connection away from the sleeve 18 with-its unsecured end 21 bent sharply downwardly. A groove 22 is provided in the section 14 within which the spring is adapted to be depressed. When it is desired to fasten the horizontal sections together the section 14 carrying the spring is inserted within the hollow end of the intermediate section until the spring enters the slot 19. The abrupt end 2-1 of the spring prevents accidental withdrawal of the sections.

The lower ends of the arms are provided with inwardly extending lugs 2.3 which are arranged beneath the sections 14 thus form-` ing a stop to prevent downwardmovement thereof, but permitting the sec-tions to be folded upwardly. When the device is Vdesired to be folded into away from the connections, the spring is depressed and the intermediate horizontal section is disconnected and permitted of its own weight to swing downwardly as illustrated in Figure Q. The end sections 14 are then folded upwardly against the lower arm sections, which are in turn folded upwardly against the upper arm sections. The upper arm sections are swung downwardly toward each other and the hook is also-swung downwardly whereupon the device is ar# ranged in collapsed position. Y

I claim:

1. A garment hanger comprising a pair of arms pivotally connected `at their upper ends and including upper and lower sections, pivotal connection means betweeneach of said sections, a sectional horizontal rod communicating between the lower ends of said arms andl including end sections and an intermediate section, pivotal connections between said end sections and said arms, a pivotal connection between said intermediate section and one of said end sections and spring pressed fastening means between said intermediate section and the other end section.
