Description
March 18, 1930. H. SCHILPP STOCKING HANGER Filed April 1, 192'? Patented Mar. 18, 1930 UNITED STATES HELEN SCHILPIP, OF ZEUSTIS, NEBRASKA STOCKING HANGER Application filed April 1,
The present invention relates to garment hangers and has for its principal object to provide an article of this character from which a number of garments may be suspended for the purpose of drying the same.
A further important object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger provided with a plurality of clamping members providing means for attaching articles of wearing apparel, such as stockings or similar articles, the hanger providing means for supporting the articles as a unit for drying purposes.
A still further object is to provide a hanger including a horizontally disposed rod as a part of the construction thereof upon which a plurality of garment clamping members may be attached and providing a spacing member between each of said clamping members whereby to maintain the same in uniform spaced relation upon said rods.
An additional object is to provide an article of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the pur poses for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the special construction, combination and arrangement of the Various elements forming the invention as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the complete hanger,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary top plan view of the portion of the clamping member,
40 Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the clamps, and
Figure 4 is a sectional view therethrough. Referring now to the drawing in detail, m the invention comprises a garment hanger constructed substantially in the form of a 1927. Serial no 180,351.
coat hanger as shown at 5 with a supporting hook 6 arranged at its upper end and provided with a horizontally extending rod 7 at the lower portion thereof.
Upon the rod 7 is arranged a plurality of clamping members formed of a pair of duplicate clamping sections 9 having a pair of gears 10 formed at. the opposite sides thereof, the outer edges of the gears of the respective sections disposed in overlapping relation and provided with openings through which the rod 7 is inserted. The inner faces at the lower ends of the sections 9 are formed with garment engaging prongs 10- and arranged upon the rod 7 between the cars 10 in the coil spring 11 having its opposite ends 12 extended slightly upwardly and disposed against the inner faces of the opposite clamping sections 9.
The ends of the spring 12 thus serve to force the upper ends of the clamp outwardly v whereby to bring the lower end of the clamp into clamping engagement upon the garment. Arranged upon the rod 7 between each of the clamping members 8 is the sleeve 13 constituting a spacing member whereby to maintain 7 the clamp in spaced position upon the rod.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that the ears 10 of each of the clamping sections provide the pivotal mounting for the clamping member upon the rod 7 permitting the individual actuation of the clamp or engaging or releasing the garment and thus enable the garment to be suspended from each of the landing members, or any number thereof.
The spacing sleeve 13 retains the clamp in spaced relation so that the garment will likewise be placed in suspended position and ;permit the free circulation of air about each of the garments during the drying thereof.
It is obvious that my invention is susceptible to various changes and modifications in construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the device to which 1am en- I I claim as new is titled. Having thus described my invention, what An article of the class described comprising a supporting'member having a horizontally disposed rod, a plurality of garment v clamping members mounted on said rod, and
a plurality of spacing sleeves arranged on the rod with one of the sleeves disposed between each of said clamping members whereby to maintain the'same in spaced relation upon said rod.
