MARIE LOVISA GAGE, OF SOUTH LANCASTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
GARMENT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 26, Twit.
Application filed August 18, 1916. Serial No. 115,737.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARIE LovIsA GAGE, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at South Lancaster, in the county of Worcester, Stateof Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Garment-Hanger; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable. others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in garment hangers, and has for its object to provide a device of this character which embodies novel features of construction whereby it is capable of holding several garments at the same time, all of the garments being separated in such a manner that they will retain their shape.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a garment hanger of this character which can be inexpensively manufactured of wire, which can be advantageously used for hanging coats, trousers, shirts, and like articles of apparel, which supports all of the several garments in such a manner that any one of them can be readily removed without disturbing the remaining garments, and
which is light and compact in its construction.
With these and other objects in view, th invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which v V Figure 1 is a side elevation of a garment hanger constructed in accordance with the invention. 1
' Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings, which illustrate one embodiment of the invention, the numeral 1 designatesa suspending hook, and the numerals 2, 2 garment supporting arms which project laterally in opposite directions from the base of the hook, said arms inclining downwardly toward the outer ends thereof, and terminating in downwardly and laterally projecting shoulder supporting loops 3. These loops 3 are arranged in a plane which is inclined to'the vertical, and the inner ends of the loops are connected by a cross bar l which is preferably curved outwardly to engage the back of the coat and assist in holding the coat in proper shape. The inclination of the shoulder loops 3 enables them to fit within the shoulder portions of a coat and hold them in the slightly distended manner which is essential to properly retain the shape of the coat.
Arranged horizontally under the garment supporting arms 2 is a clip supporting bar 5, the extremities of the said bar being bent upwardly to provide hangers 6 which are connected at their upper ends to the arms 2. This bar 5 is provided at opposite end portions thereof with corresponding series of crimped offset portions 7, said offset portions being disposed in different angular positions, and corresponding offset portions at opposite ends of the bar being similarly ar ranged and disposed in the same vertical plane. Spring clips 8 are applied to the offset portion 7, and it will be obvious that the various pairs of spring clips are all disposed in different vertical planes, so that the different garments supported by the several pairs of spring clips will all be offset from each other, thereby enabling any one of the garments to be readily removed without disturbing the other garments, and causing the device to hang in a proper position when suspended by the hook 1. If desired, a small triangular wire frame 9 may be provided at the middle of the hanger to connect the inner ends of the arms 2 to the cross bar 4 and clip supporting bar 5, thereby preventing the latter from sagging, and providing a rigid construction.
' In the use of the device a coat will be fitted upon the garment supporting arms 2 in the usual manner, with the shoulders thereof engaged by the loops 3 and the back thereof engaged by the curved cross bar t, the various pairs of spring clips 8 being adapted to be used for supporting trousers, skirts, and the like. The weight of the garment supported by the clips 8 will hold the hanger in a proper position, and owin to the fact that each pair of the clips is 0 set lltll from the remaining pair of clips any one of the garments can be easily removed Without disturbing the other garments. The entire device can be inexpensively formed of wire, with the exception of the clip 8, Which can be economically constructed of Wood, and the arrangement of the various parts is very compact so that the hanger will not occupy an undue amount of space when packed for shi ment.
aving thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A garment hanger including a suspending hook, garment supporting arms projecting in opposite directions from the base thereof and terminating in downwardly and outwardly inclined shoulder loops, a cross bar connecting the shoulder loops, a clip supporting bar arranged horizontally under the garment supporting arms and suspended therefrom, said bar being provided at the end portions thereof with corresponding crimped portions which are offset laterally to be disposed in different vertical planes, garment engaging clips mounted upon the crimped portions, and a triangular frame connecting the inner ends of the garment supporting arms to the cross bar and clip supporting bar,
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
